46 acre waterfront park near Liberty Station??

My husband and I are considering the new Homewood Suites near Liberty Station as a place to stay with 3 teenagers in July. The web site states the hotel is adjacent to a 46 acre beachfront park. Has anyone been there? Just wondering what kind of activites are offered at this park; bike riding, kayaking, volleyball etc? Is there anything nearby that would keep teenagers busy? Also, is this a good location from which to explore San Diego?

Thanks,
MJ

Yes, it is a good location to see greater San Diego. About 5 minutes to the airport, central to freeways, downtown & Coronado

Park is mainly used by people who live in the area but open to all. There are big open spaces with green grass. A nice paved walk path along the estuary.

I think you would have to rent your own gear but you could surely throw a ball around, jog, that sort of thing.
If military you may be able to lease a small boat MCRD or Sailing ctr at the NAvy sub ctr otherwise I think you are on your own unles hotel has some leased items..nice restaurants walk across parking lot Starbucks, or short drive into Liberty Station or a Vons (bring Vons or Safeway discount grocery card or ask for Vons card at store) for hotel cooking.

I live here so ask more ?s if needed

that's a big stretch calling Liberty Station a beachfront park. one side of it has water along it, but i would not call it a beach. and across the water is the end of the runway from the airport. So if you are looking to stay at the beach that is not your location.

As far as the park goes there is playground area and also lots of open space. You could easily bike ride around there. There is also a 9 hole golf course. There are lots of good restaurants and some shops. it's an area that is still developing, it used to be the Naval Training Center and was closed years ago and was turned over to the city of San Diego.
Now that being said, Liberty Station is a very good location to explore San Diego.
I work near there and find that i am there about 3 times a week for one thing or another.
Not having teenagers i can't say if there is enough to keep teenagers busy.

To say the Homewood Suites Liberty Station is adjacent to a 46 acre beachfront park might be an exageration on their part. Yes there is a park with acerage next to water. But not a beach. To me a beach means sand leading to go in water (SoCal version) Which as of now is non excistant. * Although the Park area is a work in progess ...

We always have family and friends stay at that hotel and it is a good choice, very reasonably priced and nice rooms. If you want to be with more action for teenagers then the hotels of Mission Beach might be more toward their liking since there is Belmont Park (roller coaster) and other teen activities. La Jolla hotels such as La Valencia and Colonial Inn or La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club might also be good choices, kids could walk straight to the beach as well as kayak.
If you decide to stay at Homewood, then your kids might like surf lessons from OB Surf Shop. I always arrange that for visiting teens and they love it. There are also segway tours nearby (which my teen likes) plus this very three-wheel car tour thing that people like. Look at Goldstar.com for discount tickets for it. At Homewood, your teens could walk to Liberty Station to eat, but there really isn't movies or other teen things for them there. They could take a quick cab ride to the Gaslamp and visit East Village Tavern for bowling and pool. (Again my teen likes that.)

kwick58:

Go to www.tripadvisor.com to read the many reviews on the new Homewood Suites. Take a look at the photos posted by people who have stayed at this hotel. All in all looks good value for your $'s but not on the beach.

Are you coming from a land locked area? If so please consider staying directly on the beach. You won't regret it.

Ocean Park Inn www.oceanparkinn.com or Pacific Terrace Hotel www.pacificterrace.com may meet your needs.

For visitor information go to www.sandiego.org and you have time to request their free brochure.
You will love San Diego.

You really do need a car to explore San Diego. Do you have that covered?

Sandy
