4 hour layover in Vegas
On our trip to Kauai in TEN DAYS (woo hoo!), we have a four hour layover in Las Vegas. We've both been multiple times and I'm thinking of taking a cab to the Bellagio for a quick lunch/fountain show, then back to the airport. Is this do-able? Should we risk it? My worst nightmare is getting caught without a cab or something and missing our flight, but I really don't want to sit in the airport for 4 hours. What would you do?

The great unknown is what the line for security would look like when you return from lunch. I was there last month and it went very fast. However, just a few days before my husband waited almost two hours.
Bummer.

I got to Vegas alot and McCarren Airport is one of the worst for security lines. I would never chance leaving the a/p with just a 4 hour layover. You can always play the slots while you wait for your flight or grab a bite to eat. Granted it is not the Bellagio, but why risk it.

NO. You could get stuck in traffic, and the security line at LAS is usually pretty long, and then there's the train to the terminals, etc. I agree with Lori to just grab a bite in the airport and find a comfy slot machine to play!

No don't leave the airport - last time it took 2 hours to get thru security lines - you just never know:
when you get there: freshen up, then have a light lunch in airport and go for a good walk , walk , walk all around airport before your long flight, play some slots, whatever but don't leave.

If you do take a cab, do NOT let the driver go via the freeway. A few times ago it took forever to get to our hotel and we asked the valet about it and he said cabs taking the freeway was the oldest scam in the book.

if you decide to go, i might consider hitting the mgm or mandaley bay. closer to the airport and less chance of running into traffic. however, as mentioned, i'd be back at the airport with two hours to spare.

Have taken 15 minutes to get through security in Las Vegas - and have take 1.5 hours. Which will you get - who knows?
Also- check on your arriving flight - how often is it late - and by how much.
You may well not have 4 hours at all.

I wouldn't leave either...depending on what gate you come in on, you may have to take a tram/monorail to get out/in. We have always been pretty lucky going through security here, but I do hear people in line around us complain that LAS is one of the worse for security checks as far as time wise. Sucks to stay at an airport for 4 hours, but hey at least you can have a little entertainment right there, maybe you'll win a buck or two!!
