4 days in New England

Hi. My husband and I have a few extra days in Boston with our 3 boys(11, 6 and a year old) we are thinking of hiring a car and going somewhere in the New England area. We don't want to drive around, rather just stay around a particular area and explore. We love gentle hikes and prefer cooler weather since we are coming from humid Singapore!
Would Vermont be more scenic than the berkshires or litchfield hills?
Would appreciate any advice

We really enjoyed the Montshire Museum in Norwich VT but if you head north on I93 to NH you could visit the SEE Science center in Manchester NH if it's a rainy day or continue north to the Lake Winnipesaukee/Squam Lake area. I highly recommend the Squam Lake Science Center in Holderness for viewing NH wild animals in natural habitat. We enjoyed the program on Eastern Coyotes with a leashed coyote in attendance. Our granddaughters didn't want to sit in the front row because the coyote was quite active and hungry. Docents wander around to tell you more about nature. One had a small owl on her arm and told us about owls. This area is just minutes from NH's White Mountains and all the activities from easy to strenuous hikes. There are places for lake swimming (Echo Lake) or public beaches on Lake Winnipesaukee. If you want some silly entertainment, Clark's Trained Bears is very popular. There is so much to do you can easily customize for your children's ages.

Thanks for the info. We will be there early July. I like the idea of lake swimming! Thankfully our boys are happy with nature trails and open spaces so we don't need to go to kiddie specific places per say
