Hi everyone,

It's my first time to go to Vegas and I'll be there for 4 days next week. Can you recommend Cirque du Soleil shows or any others that you've enjoyed? I have never been to one before. Also, is it worth it to see more than one while I'm there or is there something better to do at night?

I might be by myself most of the trip (friend is not sure when she'll be there exactly) and I'm not into gambling/clubbing so I'm looking for alternatives. My itinerary isn't detailed yet but basically consists of walking along the strip and checking out the hotels, Fremont St and shopping. Anything else I should add?

We have seen Mystere and O. Both were great. Friends have seen Terry Fator and thought he was terrific.

I get tired of Vegas after 24 hours. You could always head to Zion National Park or The Grand Canyon.

If you rent a car, you could also do a day trip to Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, or Hoover Dam.

There are tours you can take to Hoover dam, there is a tour where you float down Lake Meade. It is very enjoyable if you are the out door type. We loved it. As for shows I highly recommend LOVE the Beatles at the Mirage. I have seen Mystere, le Reve but the Beatles Love was my favorite. There are tons of shopping and walking around the Venetian hotel is a great pass time.

The Mob Museum is excellent and will take a couple of hours to go through. It is in an old courthouse where some mob trials were held. You will learn a lot about Las Vegas history. I would do it on one of your old downtown Vegas days.

If you get tired of walking on the Strip, you can ride the "Deuce" which is a double decker bus.
My favorite buffet is upstairs in the Golden Nugget. You can sit over by the windows and watch the swimming pool which has a slide that goes through the shark tank.
Pay before 3:30PM and it is cheaper for the same buffet.
Near the lobby is the largest gold nugget on public display (62+ lb). Make sure to hang around for the light show on the Fremont Street Experience.

spirobulldog/emalloy/diann24 My "outdoors" is more like walking through the city or going to the beach. There was a day trip to LA that I saw but I wasn't sure if it will be worth it or not. I'm arriving around noon the first day then I have 2 days and the last day I'm flying at midnight.

tom fuller I'll add the Deuce to my list. So the lunch and dinner buffets are the same? Also, what other buffets can you recommend? I read about Bellagio's and Paris Paris. Is there any place I can go to for a good view of the city?

Yes the stratosphere hotel needle takes you to the top and it is a splendid view. I believe the Paris has the effle tower. You can have a drink up there as well if I recall correctly.

I would chuck the idea of going to LA. With so much to do in Las Vegas why bother with an extra trip? I think there is a lot to see and do in las vegas.

The Wynn and Bellagio have excellent higher end buffets depending on your budget. You get what you pay for. They are about $35.00 but they are very good. I have been to a few cheaper ones of course they are just ok. I personally like good food. The crab legs are all split open all ready no fuss in eating them It has been a few year but that is what I remember. Yes the Deuce is a great idea. On and off and you can go all around for cheaper fair. Have fun and be safe.

Good evening.

First time posting on Fodor's. My girlfriend and I will be going to L.V. from July 15-18, 2015, staying at the LINQ. It will be my second trip to Vegas, her first. We won't have a car so we'll use public transit and taxis to get around. We will arrive early on the afternoon on July 15 and seeing the early evening shows (one for each evening) of O at Bellagio, Terry Fator at Mirage, and Beatles Love at Mirage. We like to eat chicken, steak, Italian, burgers, Chinese, and hearty breakfast food. I would like to see the Bellagio fountains, get a picture in front of the Las Vegas sign, play some mini golf, check out a couple of the unique museums, and generally not gamble. Any tips? Thank you.

Welcome to Fodors jimbo. It is usually better to start a new thread of your own instead of piggybacking on another thread. Especially one like this where the original trip is completed. Some may not even see your questions and continue answering the OP.

I agree totally with Janisj.Best to start your own thread in these cases. At any rate you seem to pretty much have things covered for the length of time you will be there. You did not mention a tour to the Hoover Dam. While there is is worth seeing, or a nice ride on Lake Meade. We did a raft tour down the Colorado, it was a blast. I loved it and so much fun. It was the highlight of our trip to be honest. We love the outdoors and it is so scenic and guides are all very funny and informative. Just another thought of something to do. You quite possibly will see some sort of animals on the canyon rocks. Long horned sheep? I have forgotten the name but it is exciting to see them.

There are some free things that are fun for your first time there. The pirate show outside at Mirage, the garden inside the Bellagio come to mind.

Re the OP question - there is no right or wrong answer to your question on Cirque shows. It all depends on your likes and dislikes. We enjoyed Mystere the first time we saw it and then it bored us to death the 2nd time after seeing newer Cirque shows. We loved KA the first 2 times, but after the death of one of the performers the ending was changed and it was disappointing. Since then I read the ending has been revised so it may be much better. O was wonderful, but it was more artistic than exhilarating. Our favorite is LOVE, but we have always been Beatles fans. In the case of most Cirque show (O, Mystere, KA and LOVe) the cheaper seats are better because the performance areas are so large. P.S. I hated "Love" and thought it was a waste of time, but understand why many people would jump up and down watching llamas poop as long as it was to a Beatles soundtrack.

The Linq is a great location for using the monorail because there's a stop at the hotel. You will be right in the middle of the mid-strip action at this hotel, which was originally Imperial Palace. We were there in December and it was still undergoing some renovation, so hopefully most of that will be finished in July. There's a small shopping area right there (not a mall)-- and one thing we really enjoyed was a museum dedicated to Poloroid cameras. Kind of a shop/museum quirky combination with some interesting Andy Warhol exhibits. I think admission was free.
