3/31-5/29 New Tracy Letts Play!

Hi, Fodorites! Just a heads up for theater-lovers who'll be in Chicago this spring. The new Tracy Letts play, MARY PAGE MARLOWE, premiering at Steppenwolf Theatre, is on sale now and tickets are going fast fast fast!

Tracy is the Pulitzer winning playwright of August: Osage County, Killer Joe, Bug, and Man from Nebraska. What's special about this, is that he did such an amazing job writing 'August' with so many of the Chicago-based actors in mind, that the production in Chicago was AMAZING. (And less amazing in New York or on-screen.)

In Chicago, he's collaborating with actors, I can only assume, are very much his choice. And with Tony-winner Anna Shapiro directing. Going to be cool. Hope some of you can go!

Thanks for this. We bought tickets for a performance in May and looking forward to it.

"Amazing" is a very subjective term as you know.

True. Very subjective. I worked at STC for a decade, and was thrilled by this play when I could watch it in that theater. I must have seen it a dozen times, and was blown away by the Amy Morton. When I saw it in New York, the size of the Broadway house really detracted from its power, I felt.

ChgoGal, well said. And I love that you focus on Amy Morton. I saw it in NYC at a Saturday matinee. On Sunday evening at the bar at Jie Allen I turned and saw Amy Mirton standing next to me. I don't usually talk to "celebrities" but I turned and said "Ms. Motto , I saw the show yesterday and I am still emotionally drained. I'm standing here realizing since I saw it, you've done the play twice more. That's just astounding." She looked at me for a minute then says"oh Christ. I never thought of it like that."

Geez. I shouldn't try to type on an iPhone while watching the Republican debate. I hope people can decipher all that.

Patrick, what a nice encounter with Ms. Morton. I always enjoyed Amy Morton on stage. The few interactions I had with her at the theater, she came across as self-effacing, maybe a little shy and with the driest humor. But always very kind to the "shadow workers" like me, there at the theater. So seeing her on stage, belting out that curtain line... "I'm! Running! Things! Now!" was thrilling.

Did you fans of Amy Morton know that she's a regular on the NBC series "Chicago PD," which is broadcast on Wednesday evenings? No, her performance certainly can't match her brilliant performance in "August: Osage County," but it is a lot fun to see on the TV show.

Yes, enjoy catching the show from time-to-time, just to see her. Glad she's getting a big, steady paycheck! Don't think many Chicago stage actors can say that.

And Amy Morton on Broadway in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf was -- well, simply a theatrical marvel. Such a different take on the role and absolutely amazing -- to return to that word.
