3 week music trip from New York to New Orleans May/June 2013

Hi I'm new to this forum.
My wife and I are hopefully planning a music trip from New York to New Orleans in May/June 2013.
Hoping to major on a style of country music that includes artists like James Taylor, Alison Krauss etc.
is there an established route that includes festivals, concerts etc?
