3 Choices to stay in SLC, Super 8, Travelodge, or Econo
Hello,
We are flying in SLC and need to stay in SLC for one nite. These 3 places are available, which one would you choose ?
Close enough to downtown so we can walk or drive to downtown to look around and have dinner and then we're sking up to Alta the morning after so we need to pick up discounted ski ticket for Alta. Where can we pick up the "super pass" and what's a good price ?

I recall there were two Travelodges in downtown SLC. The one at 144 West North Temple St. was a dump that charged about $150 during the Olympics ($40 otherwise) and had the family that lived there working on their cars at 2 a.m. in the parking lot.
I was there for business and despite spending 22 days at the dump, they refused to give me any credit on their terrible frequent stayer plan.
It was, however, not far from the heart of downtown and near decent dining. That was perhaps the only plus. I've heard rumors it was going to become a parking lot.
As for discounted tickets there are some ski shops downtown that offer them.

My impulse, whether religious or not, I'd stay as near as possible to the Mormon Temple, just because it is Utah's most popular tourist attraction, and it can make for a pleasant self-guided tour and stroll in the early morning hours.
I've had success with Priceline.com hotel/motels in SLC in the past.
SLC is one of the safest cities around, especially for its size, so walking anywhere is almost no problem.

I lived in SLC for 5 years, and quite frankly, wouldn't stay at any of those motels. With that said, you will survive one night at any of those locations.
We frequently put out of town guests at the Crystal Inn, and they were always happy with the accomodations.
