2 hour radius of Boston 9/7

Yes I realize it is Labor Day but last minute try for a one night early monday or late Sunday start for a nice day, lodging and dinner. I've checked some fave's in Portsmouth and Porland and many are closed on Mondays regardlesss of the holiday.

Any fun ideas?

Northampton is a little less than two hours. Galleries, shops, restaurants, nice walks.

jubi, what's a nice restaurant for a good meal and cocktails? many years ago we loved Sporello? I'm sure things have kicked in up a notch since.

Newburyport is a suggestion. I was thinking maybe Gloucester since their are more lodging choices. Any places to sleep or eat you would suggest Debit?

Alas, it's been forever since I lived out that way. Just remembered it to be a quaint place to visit. Sorry....

No sorry's!!! Back in the day we used to do day trips to towns like Newburyport to check out the shops for Christmas presents. Always a festive town.

Spoleto in NHampton! Is it still any good? Any other great food venues with cocktails? It's been years.

If you go to Newburyport...don't forget Plum Island. Beautiful beaches and nature sanctuary. We rented Plumtucket Cottage on Plum Island. It is outstanding. Two bedroom, amazing kitchen, a block from the beach.

Thanks TC. Those places will certainly fit the bill in the future. Smart project! Sadly not this week.

Spoleto is still there but moved about a block down the street from it's original location (a few years ago). Other restaurants in the same category that are good are East Side Grille, Siera Grill, and Northampton Brewery. Fresh Pasta (at the other end of Main Street) is one of my favorites.

This weekend is the Three County Fair in Northampton so that might increase traffic a bit, but people going to the fair generally aren't also going to those restaurants.
