One suggestion: read _Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil_. In Savannah it's simply called "The Book." Not only is it a fascinating story about the only person in U.S. history who was tried for murder FOUR times for the same event, but it captures the essence of the city quite well. You'll want to visit every place mentioned in the book.

It's been a long time since I used this forum. I used to get answers from people who had been to the places I asked about and could give me first hand info. Now it looks like it's changed to people whose best "first hand" advice is to look in guide books or read best selling fiction books. If I wanted to go to the library, I'd go. In the mean time, I'll look elsewhere for people who have actually traveled to get my answers.

f64club, we still do. But when someone asks such open-ended questions it's impossible to know where to start. Each of those who have responded on this thread have given good, specific answers to less general questions. Perhaps we should have not responded here at all. In any case, click on any of the screen names above - or do a search for "Savannah" on this forum - do a little reading. Your OP is so wide open that only a guide book can help you focus. We have lots of "first hand advice" to offe regarding Savannah - and have done so a lot in the 6 days since you posted your question. Maybe reading some of those threads will help you focus if you don't want to consult a guide book or the links at the top of this page (see Destinations for a start)

Here. Read this -

This is an example of a poster who asked a lot of specific questions, got input from a range wide of posters (sharing "first hand advice"), planned a trip using that advice, and posted a great trip report sharing the details of the trip.
If you copied her trip exactly, you'd have a great trip. If not, you'll still have great suggestions from Fodorites compiled over several weeks and threads via answerable questions from a poster planning a trip to Savannah.

I'm with starrs on this, f64club. It's impossible to know what the extremely vague OP wants here. Savannah is also well covered on this board, so it's not like there's no help to be found.
For me in addition, a poster shows a reasonable level of common courtesy when it's evident that they have actually invested some effort into planning their own trip instead of expecting someone to do it all for them. I normally do some research on my own on attractions and restaurants and hotels, look at a map for locations, and draw up an itinerary that seems to make sense before posting. I don't think that's too much to ask. Besides, you get no context within which to take the advice you get when you've done no legwork -- and while many folks who post here are very informed and helpful, a few are less so.

Right. I I really don't want to tell anybody what to do. When I travel I pick a place that I hope to learn something new, and I guess I also think that, if an poster has an idea of what draws them into the area, then I can point poeple in the right direction.
