2 days in columbia river gorge
My wife and I(both seniors) will be in the area from morning of Jul 15 Mon till July 17 Wed evening. We have booked on the scenic railway for Jul 17 from 9 to 230..
We will be travelling from Vancouver WA on Mon morning.. We want to drive on both WA and OR sides of the gorge. Also please suggest ideal place to stay for 2 nights. We will be driving on Wed evening to Richland WA.. Thanks in advance for all suggestions

Is this the railroad? https://www.mthoodrr.com/
There are several nice places to stay in the town of Hood River.
Take the time to drive south on Rt. 35 and visit Timberline.
Continue to the top of 35 and return to Sandy on US 26.

We like staying at the (Best Western) Hood River Inn, right on the river in Hood River. http://www.hoodriverinn.com/
On Monday I'd drive on the Oregon side from Troutdale to Hood River (use the Historic Highway) then up the Hood River Valley to Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, then back down to Hood River for the evening. It's a full day but a spectacular one.
On Tuesday I'd strongly recommend heading down to The Dalles (using the freeway is okay) and cross the river on US 97 for a visit to Maryhill Museum - www.maryhillmuseum.org - a quirky and very interesting little museum with beautiful grounds overlooking the river. Then drive back to Stevenson/Cascade Locks Hood River on the Washington side.

I wouldn't worry about the drive on 14 on the WA Side. Drive in on 84 and take the old hwy through troutdale along the waterfalls, many you can walk right up to and not have to hike much or at all. Stay in Hood River, then day 2 take a trip to Timberline/Gov't camp. Have fun!
