2-day romantic couple getaway in CO mountains?
Heading out for a mass college visit road trip with son and after leaving him at a sports camp in Boulder, CO (he'll fly home), hubby and I have 2 nights to play before driving back to WA state.
We've looked at some hot springs and many seem to be far south, which is a bit out of the way, but for the right property, we'd do it. However, we *think* the drive across the mountains from Boulder on I-70 might be lovely. Please comment if you have thoughts on that route. We eventually need to start driving towards Salt Lake City.
We would love 2 nights at a hot springs, or somewhere close to natural hot springs. Glenwood Springs seems to be a bit too touristy (?) and family oriented. Really looking for something peaceful, just for the two of us. Off the beaten path a bit is ok, but pure camping will be a bit much because we won't be able to bring gear with us. A hotel is also an option.
Thank you for any and all ideas! We are really open to almost anything.

Steamboat Springs is real town , not just geared to tourists. One of our favorite places. Very pretty area. Check Strawberry Hot Springs outside of town. Beautiful ride from interstate over Berthoud Pass going. Pretty ride down to I70 over Gore Pass and west to SLC when you leave. Or thru town of Oak Creek . These routes are easy to see on a Colorado map. All are great.

Groupon often has less than great hotels, be very careful. They are usually a bit out of the way or ones that are not doing well.
I looked at some in CO recently and none would be on my list.
Hotwire has some good places but be careful as all deals are final and the hot price deals are where you don't know hotel until you pay.
Betterbidding.com can help id hotels sometimes that are on hotwire.
When is this for - summer is high season as I am sure you know. Weekdays would be easier less $ than weekends.

Drive from Boulder to Rocky Mountain National Park, go over Trail Ridge Road, and drive to: http://hotsulphursprings.com/
There's lots of lodging in the area, from cabins to hotels to condos at ski areas.

... well where is Junior likely to go to college? (in the CO area? or somewhere well away from there??)
IF he goes to school in the population center of CO then you'll get to I-70 plenty of times in the not-far-off future.
I drove I-70 from Denver to the Utah border in wintery April but without the snow, I don't think it would have made memories.
Were it me, I think I would leave to the northwest or southwest targeting either Telluride or Jackson, WY (Tetons) for your brief visit.
IF you opt for Jackson, you'll be well on your way home when time to re-start your journey.
Just a thought.
