One thing I can suggest is that you research the Broadway shows and buy tickets NOW. Otherwise, you will be back on this board in 5 months in a panic because everything is sold out during the busiest tourist season of the year. Don't even think about 2 for 1 in December. First of all, who wants to stand on line for 3 hours in the freezing cold. Second, the seats are going to be lousy, if available at all during this time. Suggest: Lion King, Kiss Me Kate, Les Miserables, Contact. These performances show no sign of closing any time soon. Possibly also the Producers (opening in the spring). Also, may not be on sale yet but the Nutcracker Ballet at Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera tickets, anything at Carnegie Hall or Radio City. Have fun.

I'll disagree with Ellen about getting tickets now. First of all, in many (most) instances, they're not available yet! Second, of all the current Broadway shows, the only one you should consider getting tickets for now is "The Lion King," as it is sold out for months in advance. Otherwise, you can wait for several months. Don't worry, things will not be sold out for December in May or June (except for perhaps "The Lion King.")! Besides, no one knows what will be playing 11 months from now!
As for the Met Opera, NY City Ballet's Nutcracker, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, you can't order tickets for months for that time of the year!
In general, Ryan, I would agree other posters, that you are premature in your planning! The once exception perhaps is that you ought to think about booking your hotel room now or fairly soon. You can always cancel it if a better deal comes along.
