arriving about 1 p.m. and staying at the Maxwell hotel. What would be a good plan for that afternoon as we want to go out for a nice birthday dinner so whereever we go would have to be short. 2nd and 3rd day we plan to see the boeing factory and bainbridge island. would the space needle be good for that first day? any other suggestions for this senior couple?

Right by the space needle is the Seattle Duck Tour... it will run you around the city for an hour and take you to see the famous floating houses as well ... a great start and when you return, you are at the needle, the music experience and the monorail... we parked in their lot for free...
IF the weather is nice, walk down to the Olympic Sculpture Garden. It's amazing. On the other side of the Seattle Center from your hotel (to the west). You could easily include the Space Needle in that walk. A couple hours would be enough.
