11 nights in New York City

help! i will need to be in New York City for 11 nights in November. Anyone know of any good place that will 1) feel like home and 2) be reasonably priced?

OR do you know if NYC hotels will work with you if you're staying longer than just a couple of days? anything like a weekly rate exist?

thanks for your help!

I don't know if you're looking for more luxury, but we stayed here in August for a week and really enjoyed it. We had #8 and #5. They were both great apartments, but #5 faced the street and was a bit noisy. Ask for one that faces the "courtyard" side.

sallymed, I don't know when you're going in November but if it's near Thanksgiving you might be able to get a sublet from a college student. They will post on craigslist.com (go to the NY page, then search sublets). Or you could sublet from someone else who is going out of town for the holiday. The post will state the dates the place is available.

If your dates aren't exactly coinciding then there is a large newer modern hotel near Rockefeller Center called Habitat. One way to cheap it out is to stay at their shared-bath rate. It won't feel like home but more like a college dorm. They try to put all the women on the same floor as this is where a lot of single women stay. In your room you'll have a single bed, TV, closet, and sink, all looking like Ikea furnished it in sleek modern scandinavian design. On each wing are a couple of shower rooms. When you shower, you'll walk down the hall in your robe with your toiletries, lock the door, and then you'll have a nice big shower all to yourself, walk back to your room to dress. There is also a large dormitory style room with toilet stalls and sinks. Sometimes the rooms go as cheap as $69/night. This is a large hotel and you'll see lots of young professionals here. It is a very safe area and convenient to subways and shopping. The only problem I had with it when I stayed there about three years ago was that I'm a light sleeper and I found that area of Manhattan to be too noisy. But you could invest (haha) in some earplugs. I found the best rate for this hotel on its internet site.

Good luck.

Sallymed: Can you give us just a bit more information? Need to be in any particular area of NYC? What is your definition of "reasonably priced"?

Will try to help.
