And this, including a pizza place near Little Italy:

Thank you for this. I will be there in a couple of weeks.
Some good choices, but it seems a little strange to dis Lombardi's, which usually ranks near the top of New York pizza spots.
We have eaten every one except the pizza place.
It is a decent list.
Balthazar is over rated.
Murray's makes good bagels but Ess-A is better and H & H is going out of business.
Katz's pastrami is wonderful, but 2nd Avenue Deli makes a great patrami and their side dishes are light years better. They also should not photograph sandwiches with mustard, it makes it look like they have a disease
I love the Spotted Pig french fries.
The idea of Grey's Papaya is better than the franks themselves, but it is a bargain.
Pommes Frites-the smallest portion is $4.50 but they are filling.
Donut Plant-probab;y the best donuts in the city.
Shake Shack-wonderful burgers, ridiculous lines
Eataly-It is frenetic and you can get cheaper and better provisions BUT they are not under one roof.
+++++++
Places I would add
Defonte's-great Italian/American sandwiches
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
Kossar's Bialy's
Yonah Schimmel's-they only make knishes and are the last of a breed
Veniero's-over 100 years old with great pastries
Lombardi's-the are often credited with making the first pizza in the United States and it is excellent pizza
And the quintessential NY eat-a dirt water dog.
Great list, Adu! Except for the last one, maybe. I do like the grilled ones at Katz, though.
The dirt water dog is a NY tradition. Of course, they are not the best but they are part of the NY experience, something like taking subway when you are going no place in paricular.
And the fruit drinks at Gray's have yet to meet an actual fruit.
