1 week vacation! Where to go?!
Okay, so starting on Saturday my DH and I have a 1 week vacation. The whole plan was to go to China, but that got scrapped because we lost a lot of money to a contractor who took us for close to $4K last month, and we're going to have to hire someone else. So, being out $4K, we cancelled the plans. But we still have the week off, with no plans. We need a cheaper, but still great, vacation. In a few words, where would you go, taking into consideration the following:
-- Age 30, professional, no kids. We're the typical yuppie travelers. We like fun places (love NY, Napa, wine, spas, great restaurants, hip bars).
-- 4 or 5 star hotels only; below that is not going to work for us. We work too much. Hoping to get a good deal, maybe pay in the $250-325 range.
-- We are watching the wallet this month b/c of the aforementioned fraud scheme and the house we just bought and furnished! (Ack!)
-- We are on the east coast (Boston), so flying to, say, Hawaii, is probably not worthwhile or cost effective.
-- We have enough airline miles to go anywhere domestically (not abroad, and not Hawaii) for free plus the $100 charge. could probably pay around $600 each to go someplace non-domestic, but flights last minute anywhere this wknd seem much higher.
-- Checked NY and the hotels seem absurd this weekend (all good hotels are $470-900 on Expedia, even the places like the W, where we can usually stay for less).
-- Thought about a Sedona spa plus Vegas trip but my husband's parents live there and we're thinking about saving that for a trip where we would visit them too (they're out of town this coming week). But could be convinced.
-- Go to Napa/Cali all the time, as it is our hometown. Not wanting to do family this trip.
-- Checked Cancun, but isn't it hurricane season there?

Southwestern national parks: Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, etc. Tie it into a Las Vegas trip if you are inclined.
Washington DC - if that's not enough for a full week check out the Blue Ridge Mountains for the views or Baltimore for the best crabcakes in the world.
Texas: Austin, San Antonio, and the hill country in between

Love the Sedona idea and no better place to stay than the Enchantment Resort..
The weather will be gorgeous and you can't beat the scenery and the restaurants and the spa at the resort are outstanding!

Being a La Jolla girl this is the perfect time to be in San Diego..weather is still around 80 degrees and there are deals to be had..you can stay at La Valencia Hotel or go up the coast to Del Mar and stay at L'Auberge Del Mar..Coronado you can stay at the Hotel Del Coronado too.
Have fun and let us know what you decide to do..

lukesaunt, it is hurricane season everywhere in the world (West Coast, East Coast, Hawaii, Asia, Caribbean, etc) right now so don't let that interfere with your plans.
Do you want a warm beach vacation? Cancun is a lot of fun and a little more low key with easy Cancun access is puerto morelos (http://www.puertomorelos.com.mx/ ), Playa del Carmen or Cozumel.
Do you want urban and beach? What about Charleston South Carolina? Gorgeous time of year down here. One of the most beautiful cities in the US and fantastic dining and shopping.
For more urban and spicey sultry latino, what about Miami? Wonderful colerful vibrant city. One of my favorites in the world and South Beach is a fantastic adult playground.
If you just want to be bums for a week and live in the same pair of shorts and t-shirt, Key West is your town. Great to veg by the pool by day, happy hour afternoon, great eating by evening and Duval Crawl by night.
