Looking for a nice, clean, QUIET, comfortable place to stay in Moab for 1 night... preferably not on the main drag.

Red Cliffs Lodge is out of town (that's OK) and is rated #1 on Trip Advisor.

Have also heard Sunflower Hill and Dream Keeper Inn were good.

Any personal experience or rcommendations would be appreciated.

Husband and I stayed at The Gonzo Inn - one street back of the main drag.

We enjoyed it very much. They have a webpage. Just "google" Gonzo Inn.

stayed at the red rock lodge and suites one block back. nothing special but clean and quiet. www.red-rocklodge.com

We stayed at the Aarchway Inn at the very edge of town and we'd highly recommend it. The rooms were large and clean, and quiet.

You sound like me when I look for a hotel room. I want it QUIET and I also research TripAdvisor. But sometimes it drives me crazy b/c there are so many negative reviews it makes me wonder about a decision. But I guess one is much more likely to leave a negative comment than if they found the place acceptable.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check a few more things out, here and elsewhere.

I *do* check threads first but I normally discount any discussion that's over 6-9 months old, particularly as it relates to lodging.

I get especially nervous when a highly rated place (like Red Cliffs Lodge) on Trip Advisor has some VERY negative, recent discussions (like here). Who do you believe? I'm just trying to get some additional feedback that's current.

I agree re the need for very recent reviews, and I also noticed the very negative one re Red Cliffs Lodge, which worried me as we have reservations there. Anyone else recently been there?

We drove by the Red Cliffs Lodge last summer and it looked like a lovely location, albeit a bit remote from the center of town.

Forgot to say we stayed at the Aarchways Inn and I agree with karens review. I would also be happy to return there.

We didn't stay at the Red Cliffs Lodge (August 2004) but took a drive in to see it. I enjoyed the drive in for its scenery but I wouldn't want to stay that far away from everything else Moab has to offer. Plus, after having read the recent poor review on Tripadvisor I have to say that that is what I thought it would be like from a cursory look from the outside.

We stayed at Red Cliffs Lodge Summer 2004 for 5 nights and could easily have stayed longer. The rooms were very comfortable, and our private porch on the Colorado River with the blazing red cliffs really enhanced our trip. Easy to bring food in from town, cook if you want in the little kitchen, or enjoy the outdoor dining in the restaurant. We were well taken care of by the staff. I'd stay again. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenic drive to our destination each day.

My wife and I spent four nights at the Aarchway Inn at Moab last month and really enjoyed the stay. It was clean, quiet and very well maintained. They also have had a great pool and jacuzzi.
Be sure to go down to the Diner in town for an ice cream at the end of the day.
