Although I live in St. Louis, I don't claim any expertise regarding the local hotels, having never stayed in one..... You might consult this link: http://www.hotels-stl.com/DTSL.htm And from that same site there is this map with the hotels marked in orange: http://www.slfp.com/CityScapes.html
There following one is next door to the stadium which you could cross reference on trip advisor for reviews:
Drury Inn: Covention Plaza Dr & Broadway (314)231-8100
This thread should also be helpful: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=1&tid=34776641
Laclede's Landing is an area downtown immediately off the banks of the Miss River and it has several hotels; but I'm not sure everyone would consider that within walking distance, especially if it's cold out. But a cab ride shouldn't be much from there.
If you can't find anything to your liking downtown, you could try Clayton which is about 6 miles due west and, thanx to a very recently opened subway line, has a direct route to the stadium.
Hope some of this helps. Dave
I've stayed at the hotel that's attached to Union Station downtown. Good experience.
I'm not sure where the "dome" is from there, but I had a wonderful experience at Westin Cupples Station, right by the St.Louis Cardinals' stadium.
Actually that was probably the most beautiful hotel room I've ever had.
Thanks to all who replied, I appreciate it!
Any other thoughts on St. Louis for one night with the boys?
If you could be a little more specific, I'll try to help.
There is a beuatiful Renaissance Hotel - prices start at $129.
Thre is a new Hampton Inn 0.2 miles away from stadium - it opened 2 years ago.
Hilton is waliking distance too - prices start at $119.
Tre is a Holiday Inn Select too - that is chepaer but I would not stay there...it looks a little worn and the other are MUCH nicer for a just a little bit more $.
Have Fun! Try to see the arch while in STL!
There is also a brand new Hampton Inn and Suites across from Forest Park. If you have extra time you could go to Science Center....How old are your boys? It would appeal to the younger ones..
Anyway, have fun.... Go Rams!!
Laclede's Landing that someone else mentioned is a good time if you enjoy the bar scene. The Landing is an old section along the river with cobblestone streets. I haven't been down there in years so I'm not up on the best places to go. I do enjoy The Spaghetti Factory for dinner. The MetroLink has a stop at the Landing.
Since the domed stadium is so near the MetroLink (what someone else mentioned as the new subway), you can easily hop on and go to Union Station, where someone mentioned staying. Union station has several restaurants and nightclubs. Houlehans and Hooters come to mind. The MetroLink Station has stops within a block or so of each location.
One last recommendation, you can hop on the MetroLink and cross the river into Illinois and gamble at the Casino Queen.
Here's a link to the MetroLink stations. http://www.metrostlouis.org/MetroLink/stationlist.asp.
The station nearest the Dome is Convention Center, East River Front is where the Casino Queen is and of course Union Station is where Union Station is. This Web site lists the attractions near each stop.
You can also take the MetroLink from the Airport all the way to the dome if you are interested and don't want to rent a car or take a cab.

I know I’m late to the mix but here are some recommendations.
The Hampton Inn is about two blocks from the Edward Jones Dome. It was a Days Inn but was total gut rehabbed and opened about two years ago. Seems like a nice place. Indoor pool and garage parking.
There’s a smallish Drury Inn that is literally right next door to the dome.
The new Hilton is about a four block walk straight up Broadway to the dome. Friends have reported it’s a good place.
The Embassy Suites on the Landing is about 3 blocks from the dome. However it’s hard to recommend right now. The place still has that mid 80’s feel and needs to be freshened up. Once the new Pinnacle Casino opens up in 2007 they are supposed to do a heavy renovation and fold it into the complex. (The Pinnacle Casino is being built at the top of the Landing and across I-70 from the dome.)
The Renaissance is a nice big convention hotel. Very nice place when I stayed there. It’s only a two block walk to the dome and gives you easy access to the increasing number of drinking and dining options along Washington Avenue.
Skip the Adams Mark. For being an upscale place it’s actually pretty depressing.
Per recent news articles about the current rank of St Louis in crime standings, I would just say be very careful!
