Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 8-18-06

Rave: blood glucose is slowly going down. Got a 114 the other day.

Rant: The pesky squirrels got all of the walnuts off my tree once again accept for two walnuts which I spent lots of time getting off the tree later. The tree was planted 35 years ago and has had lots of TLC. Last year it started produced walnuts. They stole all but three nuts last year. Ya I know that's what squirrels do. Rodents I say, rodents!! Last year I saw a hawk trying to grab one of the squirrels with a walnut in his mouth. Darn thing got away.

Rave:

That Wal-Mart cashier who called the police on those terrorists buying the 80 cell phones which can be used to detonate bombs. It turned out they had more than 1000 cell phones.

Whew!

LOL jorr, I saw three very large squirrels on my balcony this afternoon, they were chattering to each other as they ran around the railings. I have about fifteen walnut trees near me, and we all have to get the walnuts as soon as possible or the pesky squirrels grab all of them. Rodents they are, but they are amusing..well some of the time. Congratulations on your blood glucose test..keep taking good care of yourself1

somerknot, I hope your DH gets better and brandi I hope your dental problems will be over with after Monday.

Raves: Lots of them including a lovely time in SF this last Saturday.

Rants: So many very dear friends who are beautiful and special people that are going through dreadful heartbreaks. I wish there was something I could do to ease their pain but unfortantly I can't except to pray and hold some very good thoughts for them.

Rave: My son turned 11 Thursday.

Rant: He fell off his bike Tuesday and fractured his left forearm slightly. He'll be in a cast for about four weeks.

Rant: His Little League coach finally called to let us know fall ball practice is starting. He will probably miss the season unless it goes longer than I think it will.

Rave: U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor ruled Thursday in Detroit that the Bush administration's warrantless surveillance program violates the rights to free speech and privacy as well as the separation of powers.

Rant: The Administration appears to argue that the president has the "inherent power" to violate laws. (If the ruling holds, may they end up in jail with the likes of those from WorldCom and Enron)

Rant v.2: The media in America seem to think the JonBenet story is more important than this ruling.

Rave: My boss & I got our photo in the paper this week.

Rant: People thought he was my boyfriend. Ewwwww.

Rant: The restrictions on liquids in carryons. When I travel, I often buy a few bottles of wine to bring home and just carry it on.

Rave: I guess this means I'll have to buy cases to ship home.

A perfect example of seeing the positive side of things

I don't know where to start with my ranting and raving tonight.
Ranting that there are people out there who will make the most wonderful of parents and all that is missing is that baby.
Ranting that a couple would go through so many years of their lives together and now when it is a time when they can relax and enjoy themselves, illness comes along and frightens and threatens them.
With all the stress and upset in the world, I Rave that there are so many people doing such wonderful good and kind and selfless acts every day.
I Rave that a wife who nurses her sick husband and worries herself sick, still makes me laugh at her little jokes.
I Rave that my daughter has been so sick and called me today to say that we can call her Lumpy now instead of Puffy.
I Rave that my husband is so good.
I Rave that my friends are too.
I Rave that I do not know what made me so lucky.

HI!

Rant/Rave: Just returned last night from a month in England. We had the trip of a lifetime, with long weekend trips to Ireland and Germany. A trip report is forthcoming! While it is nice to be home, I already miss England terribly.

Rant: Travel through LHR yesterday. It tested my patience to the limits. I even got yelled at by an old lady, it was swell.

Huge Rave: My children. At the ages of 2 and 4 they travel better than some adults. I really think I am raising little travellers!!! This was my 4 year old's 3rd trip abroad and the second time around for my 2 year old. They did so well the entire month--whether it was on trains or planes. Even yesterday with severe restrictions for toys and food they did wonderfully on the 9 hour flight. And, I had strangers constantly tell me how well behaved they were--I have to admit even I was surprised! I kept waiting for a big meltdown at some point but it never happened. And, what is most important, is I really enjoyed travel with them--my 4 year old was SO into all the castles and has already requested a suit of armour for Christmas. (Now where will Santa ever find that???!)

Rant: Jet lag. Both me and my 2 year old are up at 4am today. Daddy takes after my 4 year old and has no adjustments.

Happy Friday everyone!

Major Rant: My mother is getting ready to do some work on a building she owns and gave notice to her tenants that they need to empty out the apartments by end of October. One of the tenants (major charity case that has emotionally manipulated my mother for years) replies that the only way she can get the money to move out is if she doesnt pay rent anymore. This includes two months were she paid only a portion of the rent (thus legally recording her intention to pay), plus August, plus September and October.

AND MY MOTHER AGREED!!!!! aaaauuuggghhhh

This lady (allegedly legal resident without a working permit and her citizen son) has scammed my mother out of thousands of dollars of unpaid rent. She does not want to apply for public housing. I am sure that the lady will not leave because she really does not have many alternatives. Yes, I am a cynic.

Our lawyer and I cannot get my mother to understand what is happening and how she is being used. My mother feels SO SORRY for this lady! If the tenant doesnt move out on her own we are facing at least six months of a very complicated eviction process (as it involves a minor) before we can even start remodeling the building and getting rents again.

Whenever I try to intervene my mother overrules me so there is nothing I can do!!!! These rents and a low SS are my mother's income and right now she is not getting enough to get on by without skimping (and help from her children).

Rave: Even if she is TOTALLY financialy irresponsible, my mother is such a trusting, loving, caring person!

Rave: there are so many real problems out there that having mine restricted to ones that can be solved with money, is a blessing.

Cyber hugs and kisses to all in need. TGIF.

Rant: School starts next week.

jorr, sorry to hear your nuts were stolen.

LoveItaly, your friends are lucky to have you. Sometimes we feel there is nothing we can do for friends going through hard times, but being there for them is a big help.

Lee Ann, sorry your son got hurt but having a cast is cool when you're a kid!!

marigross, that's a shame about your mom. I hope it all gets resolved soon.

StephCar, welcome home.

Rave: As some of you know, our new car got smashed from behind by an irresponsible tow truck driver. After some hassle with the driver, his insurance company is going to cover the damage. The parts needed for repair have arrived, so Monday evening we will check DH's baby into the Honda Hospital to correct the little boo-boo on it's butt. OK, it's a big boo-boo, but I'm glad we won't have to look at it much longer.

Rave: Everything Scarlett said. That sums it up for me.

Happy weekend, all.

RAVE: PM, you are right, Scarlett said it beautifully and I will add one more ditto!
RAVE: Celebrating the big OH with friends at lunch today.
RAVE: Celebrating the big OH with 100 of my classmates from high school. We are meeting in Charleston for several days of dancing, eating (OK, there may be some drinking) and sharing good times. Rock on.
RAVE: I can feel fall in the air this morning.
RANTS: Snarky, rude people. Go Away!

Rave: Finally have my biopsy scheduled. The waiting has been killing me.

Rave: My sons. Sometimes they have no idea what to do with/for their mother.

Rant: Youngest goes back to school in a week and all the little arguments (about nothing) have started - his separation strategy. A simple "goodbye" would work nicely.

...and yes, what Scarlett said...so true....

Thinking of those going through such difficult times.

P_M, you made my day with your expression of sympathy for Jorr

Rave .
Watching the hot air balloon drifting over the valley after taking off from Woodstock.

Rant:
The recent "macaca" and "welcome to America" comments made by senator George Allen R-VA and 2008 presidential hopeful toward the American citizen of Indian descent.
