**== 4th of July in Ft. Lauderdale: Where are the fireworks?

We're headed to Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday for a long-overdue visit to my in-laws. We are me, hubby, and 2 teenage boys. We're staying at the Embassy Suites Deerfield Beach because the in-laws live in Margate and our 2 requirements for a hotel are 1) a suite to spread out and 2) on the beach. We've stayed there before and have been happy with it. (There. That should forestall anyone who wants to talk us into a "better" place to stay!)

My question is: Where, beween Ft. Lauderdale and Boca (not too choosy about the location), is the best place to see fireworks on the 4th? Will any displays be shot off from the ocean, making the beach a good place for viewing? My MIL is planning to look into this too (which tells me they must usually stay home on the 4th!), but I wanted to see if anyone here has a good suggestion as well.

We're staying through Sunday, and as far as the boys are concerned, the highlight of their trip is going to be the parasailing their Nana promised them. I'll post a trip report when we return. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, I hope you get this in time, and that you find it helpful. According to the City of Ft. Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department's Special Events Hotline at (954) 828-5363, the main event for fireworks in Fort Lauderdale will be at Las Olas Blvd. & A1A (at the beach). They will start at 9 p.m. and will last a half an hour. I suggest parking early at a nearby strip mall and walking to the beach to avoid the heavy traffic congestion (both coming to and leaving the event).

FtLauderdale has been granted a permit to have fireworks on a barge off shore; so anywhere along the beach would have fireworks visible. Same goes for Hollywood. Las Olas would be a lot of fun during the day, then to the beach at dark. Check city web sites for parking hints.

Thanks for the replies. My MIL likes Las Olas, so that's likely where we're headed. I'll post when we get back and let you know how it went.

Happy Fourth of July, all!

Las Olas is going to be really hot during the day. I think I'd hit the beach and then Las Olas for dinner.

Even better - we're here at the Embassy Suites Deerfield Beach, and without knowing it, Deerfield Beach is having their fireworks at the pier about 1/2 mile from our hotel.

They're closing the Hillsboro bridge from 6-11 pm because of all the people expected. All we have to do is walk out onto the beach and pick a spot to plant ourselves, and no driving back home afterwards!

We're looking forward to it.
