Next year, we have ten days to two weeks to travel between late spring and fall or late fall and the end of the year. This is a blow out trip so money is essentially no object. We like city touring. Historic sights. Markets. Good food. Wine tasting. We've done most of Europe. We'll be traveling from Washington, DC. We're 30 and have no kids.

Unless you visit Europe or South America combining historic sights and wine tasting might be difficult. Otherwise, Turkey, Silk Road (i.e. Central Asia).

Given that just about anywhere in the world would meet the criteria you have mentioned, I don't see the point of the question.

If 100 people responded suggesting 50 different places what use would it be to you?

You say you have 'done most of Europe'. I doubt it very much. Name 10 places in Europe you have 'done' and how much time you have spent in each of them.

I've spent a total of perhaps 2 years in Switzerland (I'm big on hiking) in periods of a week to a month at a time and still haven't 'done' Switzerland, small as it is. Don't confuse ticking Paris off a list after 3 days, with having 'done' Paris and it certainly isn't having 'done' France. Lose that word 'done' from your vocabulary.

You need to come up with some more criteria to narrow down suggestions as to where you could spend just 10 days to 2 weeks. It's enough for an overview of Venice for example or a nice little wine tasting trip in the Alsace. If you say you are a Burgundy lover that would suggest an answer. Or how about a theme trip like, 'castle stays only'. Quite doable in Scotland for 2 weeks.

Otherwise, it's like someone asking, 'what colour should I paint my livingroom?'

I would also vote for South America, Peru doesn't have the wine but it has Pisco, and certainly the food. Ten days is a good amount of time there.

You could go to Mendoza, Argentina, for the malbec. It's beautiful country.

Peru would be at the top of my list too. 10 days would be a good amount of time to explore. Cusco and the Sacred Valley and spend a few days in Lima. The food is excellent, from markets to high end restaurants and there are some very special hotels at all levels and budgets. May to October is probably the best time to go as far as weather is concerned.

If I was you, I'd do a tour of the Black Sea and surrounding area.

Moldova, Georgia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Russia all have wines that come from this area. In fact, Mileștii Mici in Moldova has the world's largest wine cellars.

That whole area has all of the things you are looking for.

ZDave, we LOVED Lisbon and surrounding areas there. Portugal has everything you want. We found the people are gracious and friendly. Prices are reasonable.

Look at the Avenida Palace Hotel In Lisbon. It's a gorgeous historic building, and wonderfully located for walking the best parts of old Lisbon.

Great oceanside places in the southern Algarve (sp?). Time your visit there, because I read that it gets crowded with Europeans on vacation.

Wineries up north around Porto, I think.

Hiking everywhere.

It has everything you want.

Visit the Algarve (southern Portugal). You can visit the place where Henry the Navigator taught sea captains navigation.
They make some good beer there too.

If I were you.......or if you were me, you would go to Africa on safari. In particular Botswana - Okavanga Delta. Although it has none of the things you say you like, its where I would go. You may not know you like safari having never tried it. Africa is where I have gone ...three times. It is so much more amazing than any city tour, historic sight, or market. We ate amazing food and drank (rather than tasted) stellar wines.

Or Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Moracco. They are on my bucket list.

Or Provence. I've spent weeks there staying in amazingly quaint inns, eating outstanding food and certainly drinking great wines. The shopping wasn't bad either.

Or China....now there's a cultural tour with outstanding history, cities, food, (no wine).

Do start commenting on the suggestions as to why you would or wouldn't consider each. That will narrow the advice so you might hone in on someplace.

South Africa - Cape town is a wonderful city, and teamed with the Garden Route you could have a fantastic trip. Food, wine [some of the best you'll have anywhere at Franschoek] and scenery.

Top end accommodation is very high quality with wonderful service and if you chose to do a short safari at somewhere like Shamwari, if you decided that the safari aspect was not for you, the surroundings are quite enough to make up for that.
