Where to buy lightweight travel pants

Right. First of all I am in Australia where the smallest size available is a 6.

Oz 6 is smaller than US 6 but still too big. So, and not for the first time, I have just spent 2 hours on the net in desperation browsing through US ebay and outdoor shops looking for anything in size 0, which would be my US size. Size 00 would be better but I must take what I can find.

Trouble is, even sz 2 is as rare as hens' teeth. And when you luck out and find something, lo and behold overseas shipping is not available.

Can anyone help. is there any on line shop specialising in outdoor/travel wear who ship to Australia?

And as an aside - in a country of 350 million people why are extra small sizes almost impossible to find. I can understand it in a country of 20 million. Economies of scale and all that. It's not worth folk here importing the xs sizes cos demand will be tiny. But I thought on-line in the US there would be loads of options.

And there aren't.

Past desperation. Now in full scale depression.

Or perhaps there is another small traveller out there (waist 25", hips 34", height 5'4&quot who would like to sell me their cast offs.

Suspect, well I know, you could buy stuff for my size in 1999 cos I bought a brilliant pair of pants (sz 6) from the Columbia label. Worn and worn until they worn out.

I've not been able to replace them. Columbia's size six now drowns me.

What's happening here? And can anyone help?

I would check children's sizes in catalogs - most give measurements of various sizes. LLBean, Lands End are 2 possibilities. US size 14 or 16 children's might work, but obviously check the dimensions.

My dtr is tiny and I rarely see size O in stores and have never seen a OO

Well, size inflation, for one thing. 40 years ago, when those were my measurements, I wore a size 10!

On the other hand, you should be checking the size charts for each brand. My favorite, Liz Claiborne, gives the measurements for a size 2 as waist 24 1/2, hips 35. Also, at your height you probably want the petite sizes rather than regular misses, and usually petites are available down to smaller sizes.

On the third hand, most of those 350 million people are overweight.

Try places where teen agers shop. My kids likes Express, the Gap, and Anthropology. Nordstroms might have small sizes in their athletic shop. Good luck.

First, you need to throw some shrimps on the barbie and gain some weight. You're not getting sympathy here.

Honestly, I travel in Columbias and the like quite a bit. I went to ebay over to the side (search) and typed in womens..pants..petite size 0 and I got several hits. One pair is a cargo type pant which they said would ship worldwide.

You can "save your search" on there and any time a listing comes up, they'll notify you by email. You also might do better with an "extra small" and a drawstring waist.

Also try sierratradingpost.com
Use their search engine to find your size. I found a few that fit your description there and they will ship to Australia.

best of luck!!!

I think you should try Patagonia. While on the expensive side, I think they have what you need. And I have worn the brand for years, and found it very nice.

Be cautious of buying petite pants - the max height is 5'4 and if they shrink, you have wasted your money; trust me, I know!

I agree Wanna. I'm 5'4", but I can't wear petites. They fit my waist better, but they are too short in the leg (I've got a short torso but average legs). New, petite pants will work for beach combing, once they shrink, I am ready for the biblical flood.

You should take your next vacation in asia! Bangkok comes to mind.....All the clothes there are your size and a tenth of the price. What you save will practically pay for your trip!

Lucy.com has xs pants. They specialize in work out clothes, but many styles also work well for travel and weekend wear. (I first heard of this brand on a travel message board.) Try an XS in a fitted style.

I love my Adventure Khakis from Rail Riders (www.railriders.com) and it looks like their XS should fit you. Not good for really humid climates, but light and fast-drying. Travelsmith also has good travel clothes, and again, their XS should fit you.

My best travel clothes are not specifically "travel" clothes. I just always keep it in mind when shopping.... What will pack well, can wash out in a sink, drip dry, etc.

Hello all,

Surprised to see this thread is still active. I've been, and returned, from the trip I was shopping for!

Thursdayd - I have just checked out the railriders site and am VERY VERY EXCITED as not only do they do XS but they have a bog std, not convertible (I don't do shorts or capris), style, that is wide leg. Thank you! Thank you!

Because I didn't tell you the whole story. The pants must be wide leg, so children's sizes won't do, because they size the leg in proportion to the waist and hips. Ditto Supre, and ditto shopping off the rail in BKK.

But I do love passing thru BKK as I can get tailored pants made there for work. I've yet to find a tailor, though, who stocks that lightweight easy-dry fabric. And I've yet to find anywhere here where you can buy it by the metre so I could take it along with me.

Thanks a million to everyone who contributed. And if anyone happens to know where you CAN BUY that fabric I'm talking about please let me know. Cos I guess we'd all agree, you really can't beat it if you want to travel light and wash as you go along.

Happy travels.
