Trip with friend
Hi there. My friend and I want to plan a trip together. We are unsure of where to go exactly. We need a place that has affordable affair, and is overall relatively cheap. We live in New York if that clarifies things for airfare. We particularly want beautiful scenery, less-touristy places, and culture. Any reccomendations would be great! Sorry if my information is very broad. Thanks

What is cheap to you? $100 a night for two, $200 a night, etc.?
Food? All sandwiches and market food or the last expensive sit down pasta and salad or something with meat?
What is reasonable airfare? $300, $500, $1000, $1200?
How long will your trip be? Total days/nights available?
When do you want to go?
You are in NY? Do you want a city?
Are you thinking only Europe or places like Costa Rica?
When choosing, to go cheap, but have great scenery, don't think only about cost of getting there, lodging, etc.
Think also about what the cost of sightseeing will be once you are there, including travel from place to place - planes, ferries, busses, trains. If distances are great, air will be faster, but cost may be a factor. Long bus trips eat up expensive travel time. Sometimes a car is a good idea, sometimes not. Look at the whole picture.
Places with cheap trains and countries with places of interest that are close together will be cheaper and may give you more sightseeing for your money. Some places, airfare may cost a little more, but travel once you are there may be less.
When you narrow things down, look at multi-destination (into one city, out of another) tickets, rather than RT or two one way. That way, you won't have to pay for transportation to backtrack to your arrival city if you go to places further apart.
Less touristy with beautiful scenery. Consider Portugal and Slovenia. Perhaps Sicily.
