I booked a Paris vacation early February of this year adn since it was an international trip I paid $125.00 bucks for the travel insurance.
Two days before my departure, my fatherI unexpectedly died from a heart attack.
Now I've been trying to get a refund from the insurance company. I faxed all the required documents two weeks ago and so far nothing.
Any one have experience dealing with trip insurance? I have called and they say the recieved my documents but no decision has been made.
What type of decision has to be made? It was a death. It's been a little over 2 weeks and I'm not sure how long it usually takes. The women on the phone said she had average time but to keep checking back.
Any suggestions to keep things moving along?

My condolences on the death of your father.
Simply keep calling and document each time you call. It does more good to be able to say "I called on the 5th and talked to Sue S. with employee number 284374, 10th and talked to Frank F. with employee number 375950, etc" than it does to say "I've called and called". It's hard to pass blame when you can name names. It's no longer a situation of "it got lost on someone's desk" but "Frank, what happened with this case?"
Ask what the average time is and once you're past that ask what decision they're waiting on. Ask if there's someone you can talk to who would be the person in charge of your case. Politely ask to speak to a manager if you feel that the person you're speaking with isn't able to help you.
Read through the fine print on your policy to see if it says how long it might take to get a refund. Often other refunds take 30-60 days, so while two weeks is irritating it's actually not as long as it sounds.
Sorry for your loss, what a shame.
"I faxed all the required documents two weeks ago and so far nothing."
Two weeks is no time at all. I personally would not even start to be agitated/impatient unless 30 or more days had passed. Just relax and let them do their thing for at least another week or so. Don't unnecessarily upset yourself over this -- it is much too soon.
My condolences, too, for the death of your father.
With travel insurance, everything turns on whether your reason for cancelling is "covered", along with providing a properly completed claim form accompanied by required documentation. And, whether the person in question is covered under the policy you purchased.
Most claims are paid immediately. If not, there must be some continency...usually whether it's a covered reason and/or an unanticipated event.
