Trip Idea To A Relaxing Location With Beach in Mid-June

Well...It was going to be...and still might be Bali, as a destination for two friends as a celebration after a very hard few years completing a Masters Degree. But the flights to Bali from SFO are so darn expensive, that it might be worth looking into other locations. Mexico seems too hot and no to Hawaii. Any other suggestions for a several week stay near a nice beach in a foreign country? These two are very low maintenance, by the way....cheap hotels or hostels, etc.

As a side note....I am thinking that since Bali is so inexpensive to be at once you get there, that the high cost of the flight might very well be offset by the potentially cheap cost of living. Thanks for any suggestions!

Flights to Europe are horrendous this year, and your costs will be (much) higher than Asia once you get there. Have you looked at other parts of Asia besides Indonesia? Thailand? Vietnam? Cambodia? (Cambodia is known for Angkor Wat, but has beaches as well.)

Good Ideas. I have looked into Thailand, but not the others. Thanks! And with the dollar dropping in value by the day, Europe seems very unlikely.

Why don't you try going to Kota Kinabalu? I think that's in Thailand. And I heard the place is really good and doesn't cost much.

"I think that's in Thailand" - quite wrong! It's the capital of Sabah, part of Malaysia, on Borneo! While it's the gateway to other parts of Borneo, it's also a sizable city.

seeksocean - if you're definitely thinking of Asia you should post on the Asia board, you'll get a lot more replies there.

www.casaviena.com/playablanca.htm

lacasadefelipe.com

I love Colombia cheap flights to CTG from LAX

via FLL on Spirit.com not too hot usually

with Carib Breezes makes for a cheap exotic fun time.

Thailand beaches are cheap once you get there but the flights

are long and expensive kind of like Bali overdeveloped.

Spirit also goes down to nice Carib Islands

maho.org St John is nice also Camgrounds there.

Brazilbeaches.org also beautiful bit more expensive to get to.

Florianopolis neussurf.com my fav there.

Have fun,

Hey Qwovadis, Cartegena it is! One of their friends said that the area there was one of the most beautiful they had ever seen! We tried to make Bali work..but it's just too darn expensive to get there. They are very excited. Any other info..like places in Cartegna itself...things to do for two young (28 years old) and community minded types on a bit of a budget would be great. I showed them the links to Casa Viena in Playa Blance, etc. What denominations of USD should they bring (besides their ATM and CC)? They are both Spanish speakers...although only one of them is fluent. Thanks for your suggestions!
