Hey,
we are wanting to plan our honeymoon in Tahiti,i have read in some travel books that Tahiti, itself is a cool city,if you like cities. But,i have read on some messageboards that you shouldn't spend more than a few hours in Papeete.
We love cities and i feel that we would get a real feel for the place and it's people if we spent a couple of days on Tahiti.
We also plan to spend the majority of our time on Moorea.
I'm wondering if Tahiti is alright? safe?
We do love touring cities, but i don't want to feel let down if we decide to spend a few days there.
Also, anyone know what food(s) you can bring into Tahiti?
Tahiti, worth it?

Tahiti is not expensive that you think, you can check it out the great deal of resort from here :
http://www.hotelsguru.com/french%20polynesia-tahiti-sortbyprice-hotels.html
Those of them are chain hotel/resort. It is worth destination for your honeymoon trip, the kind of trip is not be often in your life, you choose be carefully selected the best for your mate.
Papeete is not a big city by all means, but it's worth staying a couple of days in my opinion. Many say that you shouldn't spend more than a few hours, but we spent 2.5 days and that was perfect. I find too many are quick to dismiss Papeete. The market area is very lively during the day and at night. It is safe everywhere, but alway a bit of caution as in anywhere in the world. The Papeete market is great for gift shopping. You will find something to buy on all the islands, but I there a lot of choices for those last minute gifts on the last day! The Fruit Juice Company on Moorea as a great gift shop, including alcohol (vanilla rhum, etc.)
About the food, I don't know, but you can stock up at the market.
Enjoy it, it's an amazing place.
