Short Notice Solo Travel

Just saw this 2011 post and feel I am in the same position now as this woman was back then. Her wish list almost exactly mirrors mine (except for the fishing part.)

I’m about to be 55 in a couple of weeks. I a married for 25 years. I have a daughter, son in law and dranddaughter who live with me and my husband. I love my family dearly and enjoy spending time with them. However, they can it can be somewhat stressful at times. I just realized that I have a long weekend available this coming weekend to do this. I’ve never solo traveled but find the need To get away. Some place where I can “gain focus and clarity, relax, renew, and care for no one but myself” as stated in the original post.

I live in Westchester County of New York State and would like to be able to drive to a destination within 1-3 hours. My budget is a a bit limited (400 to 600.) I realize this is probably impossible due to the extremely short notice and budget constraints but ANY suggestions would be immensely appreciated...

Would be the ideal setting (at least what I imagine to be ideal)...
-natural
-quiet
-private
-serene
-safe
-a view from my room so incredibly beautiful that this element alone would daily leave me in awe.
-**Most importantly, I need to see, hear, feel... Water.....beautiful crystal clear water, be it a stream, beach, lagoon, river or lake.

Not necessities, but would enjoy:
-massage
-fishing (would love to learn to fly fish)
-waterfalls
-location considered to be one of the most beautiful spots in the world
-optional local excursions

*I'm a sappy, sentimental visual type, moved my the simplest things.

Any suggestion greatly appreciated. I'm determined to take this trip and do the necessary work to finally...take care of me.

It's a bit further than you want, but Ithaca is certainly known for its waterfalls. Perhaps not considered among the most beautiful spots in the world, there are, nonetheless, some very lovely places in the area. I don't know how easy / hard it would be to find lodging within earshot of water, though.

I’ve heard a bit about Ithaca. May be a place to visit when I have my husband along. A little too long a drive for me alone. Thanks for the suggestion.

I see you started a thread over on the US board. Good. But just a suggestion -- the title if that thread is sort of vague - "Short Notice". (I know, I know, your plans are 'vague' ) But it is better if a title helps people decide whether to open a thread or not.

You may get some useful responses -- but really only from people who were curious what the heck you are asking about.

Not trying to be the 'teacher' here -- but something like "Scenic area within 3 hours of Westchester NY?" That way people who know about the NY/MA/PA/etc area will see it.

Unfortunately we can't edit posts/titles. So maybe leave it alone for now and see what sort of feedback you get -- if nothing today, I would post again with a more descriptive title. Good luck . . . (sorry, I can't really help w/ your actual question)

Woodstock, NY in the Catskills should meet your criteria.

Google it for images, B&B's, waterfalls, lakes and things to do.

To be honest, it sounds like you have earned a getaway and you really need some time alone.
It might not really matter where you go, just so you do it.
More power to you.

Doing research on New York State may help.
