Seeking easy and secluded beach vaca - help!

Friends! My girlfriend and I are looking for a relaxing weeklong beach vacation. Our two ideas of a vacation are so far apart, I'm looking for suggestions. She wants a fancy beach resort type vacation, which we don't have the money for, and I want a secluded beach backpacking trip that would be basically free. My thought was Cape Lookout in North Carolina, accessible only by ferry. That's a little too primitive for her tastes, she says. So what are the options if we don't want an expensive and crowded vacation resort? This may be too far-fetched, but I was even thinking some native huts or bungalows in the Caribbean.

Thoughts???

If you are looking for a little combo of the two you could check out Edisto Beach State Park in South Carolina. It has hiking and both campsites and cabins located right on the beach. Might be the best of both worlds?

You will get more answers if you post this on the United States board. I suppose you don't have the money to fly somewhere else?

Where are you starting from? Do you have money for plane tickets?

There are some places you could go for a long weekend in the Caribbean that are somewhere in between camping and a luxury resort. I'm picturing Negril Jamaica. but you need money for the plane and say at least $75/night for a room. plus food and transportation.

When are you thinking of going? That makes a difference.

Based on your mention of North Carolina, I'm going to guess that you're closer to the East Coast than the West. If you can't swing plane tickets, consider somewhere along the Georgia coast, like Jekyll Island or Cumberland Island (though Cumberland may be too rustic for your GF - outside of the pricey Greyfield Inn, it's basically camping). You might also try some of the less touted beaches along the Florida and Alabama Gulf Coast, such as Mexico Beach, Anna Maria Island or Gulf Shores, which tend to be quite affordable and have beautiful sand/water.

If flights are feasible, there's Cinnamon Bay campground on St. John in the USVI; Tulum, Mexico; the Dominican Republic; and some areas of Puerto Rico, like Rincon.

Try looking up Samoa, there are villages that are dotted everywhere the islands that have terribly basic beachfront bales for rent.
