San Diego or Hawaii?
I am trying to plan a trip somewhere sunny for December 25th through January 1 or 2nd. We are in Seattle and will be tired of rain and gloom by then. I am debating between San Diego and Hawaii. Both are about a wash in terms of costs. We have a friend who just moved to Oahu and we may be able to crash with her, if she buys a house by then. San Diego has lots of attractions for my 4 year old: LegoLand, SeaWorld, etc. Please help me decide. Any downside to being there during the holiday season? I also posted this question on the US forum. thanks!

I live in San Diego, but if you can go to Hawaii for the same price, I would choose Hawaii.
There isn't realy a downside to being here at Christmas, but weather that time of year is usually in the mid-60s, not hot and not all that sunny.

Another vote for Hawaii, and I live in San Diego! It is very cool here in the winter (in the high 50's low 60's during the day and cooler at night - enough to turn the heater on). The ocean is way to cold for swimming. Right now the water temp's around high 50's.
Hawaii is always perfect weather - but be AWARE!! The hotel rates are through the roof during the Christmas holidays. Most hotels DOUBLE their occupancy rates. You might be better of renting a house or condo.

That's an excellent point about rates during those specific holiday weeks. When you price airfare and hotels both, you need to check those exact dates because they'll be higher than say earlier in December or later in January.
I still vote for Hawaii though, no contest. San Diego would be a fun 4-day get-away from Seattle sometime. But to me it wouldn't count like a Hawaiian "vacation". -suze

I enjoy San Diego but if it is the same price (can't believe that it is especially at Christmas) I'd choose Hawaii any day. True there are fun things for kids to do in SD but I don't know any kid who doesn't love the water in Hawaii.....Double check those hotel prices as has been mentioned they are sky high during the holiday season.
