Safe Credit Card

I'm going to spend my winter holidays abroad but I would prefer not to take my credit card with me. While looking for an alternative, I've found Podex Prepaid Visa Card http://www.second-card.com . Wanted to buy one but I'm not sure if it is reliable and safe.
Have anyone heard anything about it before?
I would not want to end up in a foreign country with no way to access my money…

Would be grateful for any opinions and suggestions.
Thank you,

Karolina

Why would you not take your credit card? If something happens, you can get a new card quickly.

You should be accessing your money using an ATM card, just as you would get cash at home, and using a credit card for large purchases. There are many threads on the Europe board about this, I'm not going to repeat it all here.

I have no knowledge of or interest in the card you mention, which probably charges high fees. I'm not sure whether you are naive or a troll, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Assuming this is a real question, it is a BAD idea, a VERY BAD idea.

You need to do some reading about using credit and debit cards when travelling. As noted by thursdaysd, the info is available. Use the search function.

Bad idea. Those preloaded cards have tons of fees (for opening, for adding money, for using, for closing, etc.)

A regular charge card is much safer. You don't want to travel without one in case of emergency.

To obtain cash you use a debit card at a bank ATM machine.

This card is basically highway robbery - the company preys on people's fears and/or exploits their desire to be anonymous in their spending. These people will charge you 40 bucks to buy the card and then 2 bucks every time you use it to get cash from an ATM. They charge you 50 cents just to check your balance at an ATM! Then they will only allow you to take the equivalent of $200 out of an ATM at any one time - most likely so they can ding you with that $2 ATM fee as often as possible. I couldn't find anything about exchange rate, but I am willing to bet that they tack on quite a few percentage points.

As others have said, just use a regular credit card and a regular ATM card. I usually travel with 2 credit cards and 2 ATM cards just in case.

If you're that worried about it, why not simply open a different credit card that has no foreign transaction fee and only use it for travel items? That will make it very easy to keep track and make sure that you don't have any extra charges.
