One more family trip with college age children
So the kids are growing up ....... but I love my family trips. One more memorable adventure would be great with age 24, 20 and 18. Suggestions??
I am thinking:
Savannah/Charleston/Hilton head
London
New Orleans
Costa Rica
Would love to hear your thoughts on trips with this age group.

You'll get some advice here . . . But you probably have better/more knowledgeable response if you re-post on the specific travel boards (Europe, USA, Central America)
They are much more active than this one. Also-- what time of year? That could make a big difference for some of those destinations.

June or December could make a huge difference in the weather in all of the places you mention.
I don't think you can base appropriate destinations only because of age groups, it depends the *interests* of everyone in your family.
Personally London would be my pick from that list, but then I'm not at all interested in Costa Rica (although I love Mexico). New Orleans, definite interest, Savananah/Charleston zero interst. But that's just me.
I agree with janisj. Not too many people read this "Travel Tips" forum. Try posting on the Mexico/CA board and the US board.

My aunt and uncle took what was probably their last family vacation with their college age daughter to New Orleans. My aunt said it worked because it was an unusual destination, very food oriented, and walkable (staying in the French Quarter). Everyone had a good time.

London is great and gives a lot of options for everyone in the family.
We took the last family vacation when I was 23 in 2008, and learned an important lesson. When planning a family vacation when everyone is an adult, make sure to give people time away from each other. You can have the togetherness of a family vacation without being around each other 24/7. A single city is excellent for that because it's easy to say "we're going here, you guys go wherever you want to and let's all meet at _________ at ____time".
Your kids are plenty old enough to be out on their own and are likely used to being entirely (or somewhat for the youngest) independent. Also, let them help choose the destination. Part of the fun of a family vacation with older kids is letting everyone have a say in what happens.
I was in London just after Christmas two years ago and it's actually really nice in December as there are much smaller crowds. The weather is somewhat cold and a bit dreary, but not bad and it really depends on what you're used to. I'm used to very cold winters and had a fantastic time. The weather is gorgeous in June but there are tons more people there.
Costa Rica is gorgeous, but it really depends on your interests. It's nothing like London and of course New Orleans is entirely it's own style of city.
Figure out with the rest of the family what destination sounds like fun (rainforest/beaches vs historical city vs whatever New Orleans is) and then go from there.

take them someplace they can't afford to visit on their own for a while...
new orleans is cheap...
i say go international. london is pricey and something they won't be able to do on their own until they are established with jobs. or visit where your ancesters are from.

June or December, I would pick Rome. I love London but the price of the pound is going to kill you in hotels and food. My son lives in London and I go there at least once a month for work but everything is so much more expensive than a city using the EURO. Rome has something for everyone in your age group and so much to see and do-you can plan the trip for whatever month you want to go and your plans will work for any month basically.

My Mom is having me research the same thing; she wants to do a nice trip before my brother graduates from college. He is 22 and I am 24, and we have done the family travel trip since we were little. She is having me do research so that me and my brother are sure to be entertained. I have been leaning towards a Costa Rica Trip. I feel like it has something for everyone, warm weather, site seeing, natural wonders ect. I have been doing a lot of research to make sure our trip stays within budget but is still really fun and we can do lots of activities. Monograms travel has “package” deals; basically they just set up the whole things for you. Me and my brother are leaning towards the Costa Rica Wonder with Tortuguero, where you go to the National Park and explore the jungle. There are lots of other options, but the great thing about these packages is they are atypical, which is great for memory making with the family, but not the typical vacation which will really make your family vacation go out with a bang! Good luck! Hope you have fun!
