Novice solo sailing
I am turning 55 this year and want to celebrate by doing something I've always wanted to do. I want to learn how to sail. I am a teacher so I am off July and August.I am planning my first solo long distance trip to Nova Scotia, so if I could combine that trip with a sailing adventure that would be awesome. I have no idea where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am researching the Nova Scotia part, but I don't know where to look for the sailing part. Any suggestions for a solo 55 year old woman that loves hiking and the beach in Nova Scotia will also be appreciated.

Oh, and whoever you end up doing the sailing with, check out their credentials and their experience carefully. There was a story about a woman who went out with two "experienced" sailors (she was also experienced) and they ended up losing the ship and getting lost at sea.

I'm no help really, but wanted to chime in to say Nova Scotia is absolutely amazing. My brother-in-law has been there the past two summers, and he's hooked. His photos are just stunning. And he has found the people very welcoming to him.

Thanks for the advice. I will check out the Canada board. I will also check out the tall ship Silva for a tour. I am looking more for actual lessons somewhere. Doesn't have to be Nova Scotia. Suze, where did your brother go in N.S.?

Thanks, I'll be driving up from Pennsylvania and starting in Halifax. Do I need reservations or can I just wing it? I'll be leaving PA the beginning of August and taking about 2 days to get there.
