Mom and teen son February ideas
I am looking for ideas on where to take my 16 yo son for 7-10 days in February. He is most interested in ancient history so I thought Italy or GB, but not sure how cold it will be. Fun warm places also a possibility, with hiking/biking/outdoor activities. And good local inexpensive food, too. Any ideas?

If you are planning to be in Asia, I would suggest Bangkok Thailand or you can go and visit Philippines There are lots of ancient places in Bangkok and it is very cheap there... I think Bangkok is one of the faves of white or black foreign to go to these days. In Philippines, Baguio City is nice, its cold there but It's more bearable. And most of all, these countries are cheap foods, souvenirs, and of course the accommodations.

Galapagos is expensive. Very ECO but not much ancient hisotry there.
Cheapest hiking/biking in Europe would be Spain. Their winter is realtively mild, but still a cool 50 on avearge. The south of Spain, of course, is warmer. Good local food, not expensive at all. There are many places to visit with medieval historical value. For me, February would be too cold for hiking/biking there.
If foreign langauge is an issue, consider Mexican Mayan ruins. Cozumel is inexpensive, most speak some English, there are several Mayan sites on the island, beacehes for relaxation, inexpensive local restaurants, and it will be warm for sure. There are also all inclusive resorts as well. There are 2 major Mayan sites accessible via Playa de Carman. (Coba & Tulum) they can be taken as 2 separate day trips. You can consider the Mayan riviera, but Cozumel is better.
Other consideration would be the Inca Trail in Peru. Greece would be wonderful and full of history, same for Isreal or Egypt.
I persoanlly wouldn't sugegst Thailand (especailly Bangkok) even if your son is interested in Asian history. There are many places better (and safer) than Thailand and the Philippines for biking, hiking and "older" history.
With only 7 to 10 days, do you want to use up 2 full days for travelling to/from where you are to Asia or Eurpoe? Your best bet probably would be Inca Trail (Peru) or Cozumel (Mexico).
