Mapping tool for planning multi-destination trips
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some kind of program or app that can do all of these things below. I'm hoping to be able to continuously add destinations to this program over time as I learn about them, so that I can plan future road trips from this saved information. I originally used Google Maps Engine which was great except that it limits the number of layers you can use.
This is what i would like it to do:
-Add pinpoints to the map. Ability to add notes as well including any text I want, links to online info, information on which season is best to visit.
-Add those pinpoints to multiple map layers (for example, one layer with national parks, another layer with surf locations, another with landmarks)
-Ability to either hide or display each layer, to only be looking at data relevant to the trip i'm planning.
-Not necessary, but would be great if I can have it filter by which season I selected as the ideal time to visit each location.
Thanks for any input, and happy travels!

Buy a large wall map for the area in question and pin notes to it as required.
You know, I am reminded of a PHD(their feet are never actually on the ground if you know what I mean) I once did business with who wanted to buy a device we sold but wanted it to be designed for his specific needs. For example, he thought a certain button would be better on the left side vs. the right side.
I gave him the answer. 'You can have anything you want if you are willing to pay for it.
It took several thousand man hours to design the device as it is but you are not being asked to pay for all that time. If you want a one off item however you will be asked to pay for all the time it takes to design, machine and produce that item. So do you want to make do with this device which is perfectably adequate for the job you want to do and costs $3k or would you like us to produce a custom made item just for you which will run you around $3Mil? Your choice.'

I've used Powerpoint to do most everything you ask for.
Start with a scanned map from a guidebook, or a good image from online. Add pinpoints and notes, such as contact numbers and opening hours, either on same page or on reverse. Print. Put in luggage. Batteries not required.
Then one can easily plan efficient routes for visiting desired sights, and have nearby restaurant options at hand (in case you don't stumble upon one one like). Have used this system successfully in Venice, Florence, Washington D.C and other places.
The printed pages are falling apart by the end of the trip since they get used so much.

I think OpenStreetMaps does what you want.
https://www.openstreetmap.org
You can create private overlays and the maps are editable. Plus is can be used in conjunction with Google Maps.
