My sister and I are looking for a destination to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday. I had wanted to kick off the holiday season by visiting the Christmas markets in Germany (I have been before) and Austria (Neither of us has been before) but airfare is running just about double for what I paid 3 years ago. We can get airfare for about $200 less to go Hawaii (Neither of us has been before). My sister had me check airfare to Istanbul (Neither of us has been before) and that is running half of what we would pay for Germany.
As you can see, I am very undecided and airfare prices aren't making it easy. Once I have a place in mind, I will see how much we want to spend on lodging. The weather isn't a factor as I know the places I have looked at are very different for this time of year. We are both in our mid to late 30's and love to sightsee and shop. I am not into museums or laying on a beach for long, as I get bored after a few hours of both. We also will be leaving from the EWR/PHL areas so does anyone have any suggestions?

You live on the East Coast. It's shoulder season in the Caribbean. It should be fairly inexpensive to go there, and you don't fly so far.
The Caribbean is a good place to recharge your brain and body.
I found a nice place on the beach in St. Barths for about $80 a night, including breakfast. I've gone back there several times.
I even had Thanksgiving at a French restaurant there. Interesting. Foie Gras to die for.
Thanks Rastaguy. I looked but airfare and it looks to be the same for Hawaii ($900+) but with more connections. Maybe I will do some more looking around in the Caribbean as I have not traveled that much there. So it's something to think about.
Here's something from Budget Travel. Maybe that would help you. http://www.budgettravel.com/feature/0909_ShoulderSeason,6691/
Flying to St. Barths...jets can't land there, so there is a change at Sint Maarten/St. Martin. St. Maartin is a pretty small terminal, and changes are easy. No plane over 19 passengers can land in St. Barths, which is why it's not so crowded.
I used to go to St. Martin, the French side of Sint Maarten, as it's more laid back, but too much growth in the last 15 years for my taste. No more dogs herding goats through Marigot.
