Last minute solo/single/activity trip on a budget?
I have two weeks off coming up soon and would love to do some travel. I traveled with friends before and loved it, but don't have a traveling partner now, so I'm looking for some sort of a small group trip. I'm in my early 30's and single and would like much of the same in the group. I like adventures and activities, but also would like to partake in night life and want to be able to do some things independently. Would most prefer S. America or SE Asia as far as the region, but really would be happy to go anywhere if the prices is right and it's not some kind of sit in the sun and do nothing cruise kind of thing.
What options do I have? Any web sites or travel agencies to talk to?
I tried google without any luck--it's all either family cruises, resorts, or something that's happening in a few months rather than a few days.

Where are you starting from? There are still a few singles cruises if you are looking for a boat trip.
There are quite a few people traveling solo on Amtrak.
I still have a Facebook friend that I met on my first Amtrak trip in October 2001.
If you can sleep in coach on Amtrak, you can travel quite cheaply using a USA Rail Pass (15, 30 or 45 day).

I'm starting from Indianapolis, but don't mind flying a bit if need be. Just really want to get out of town for a about a week and do something fun, not sit at the beach somewhere and do nothing. I don't think Amtrak thing is for me. I want something with activities during the day, good night life in the evening, sleep 3-4 hours a day, and non-stop action the rest of the time.

There is an Amtrak train that leaves Indianapolis at about 6AM every day (Hoosier State or Cardinal) that goes to Chicago. The trip on the train takes about 5 hours. There is a bus that also goes to Chicago if you wanted to go to Milwaukee on the train.
You can get from IND to MKE and back for less than $100.
The Cardinal (3 days a week) eastbound will get you to Cincinnati, West Virginia or Washington DC.

Well it's not part of a group, but what about just getting on a plane and going somewhere?
I just returned from 10 days solo in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, just as an example. I bought a plane ticket and went. Easy. There's lots to see and do there. Easy to meet people. I've done the same in Hawaii (Waikiki/Honolulu).
Just pick a place, buy a plane ticket, and go! Hotel reservation the first few days is always a good idea.

If you don't mind sharing a room w/ a stranger, I've traveled w/ Contiki & G Adventures and had so much fun. I never did the one city in a day type tours that are go, go, go as that would be exhausting. I got along so well w/ my roommates that I've traveled w/ them since & keep in touch. A good balance of group activities & free time. The guides are always up for partying too.
