Is there a website where you can search by price rather than destination?

I am not very picky about where we go; I am usually willing to travel anywhere. When we plan an big vacation, I usually plan on a destination. But sometimes I just want to go somewhere cheap. Most sites I have seen want you to pick a destination. I just want to see what the best deals for a particular week to anywhere. Thanks.

Sign up for at some travel sites like Priceline, Expedia, orbitz, travelzoo etc. They'll send you emails of the places on sale and you can pick a vacation from that.
Hope you get a great deal.

Try www.airfarewatchdog.com.

You put in your local airport and it shows you the low airfares to a number of local and international destinations.

They also have daily airfare alerts you can sign up for.

Another interesting website that shows numerous airline fare sales is http://deals.farecompare.com/categor...airfare-sales/.

Thanks very much. Most of these suggestions are for airfare. Is there a similar concept for vacation packages?

Try www.lastminute.com. Just put in your departure city, leave the destination blank and enter your dates. It will come back with the packages available.

Also look at www.go-today.com.

You're welcome LSky.

You can go to http://www.farecompare.com/ and click on "Cheap GetAway Deals - Find Deals from your Airport."

Thanks, bettyk for go-today. Exactly what I was looking for. I think I stumbled on that a few years ago but I forgot about it.

Don, I never noticed that search on farecompare before. It looks great for US travel, I wish they had it for international.

Thanks everyone.

sdtravels,

I just noticed that you can get to international destinations, too. It's waaaay obscure.

If you click on "Cheap GetAway Deals" and get to the page with prices for US/Canada destinations, click the name of your home airport in the line that says "Deals from (home airport) to US/Canada." When you do, it'll give you a page with maps of Europe, Mexico, South America, etc. Just click "View all destinations" under Europe, or Mexico, or wherever you want to go, and it'll give you a page showing the prices for those destinations.

They really should make it a lot easier to get there...

Also try Travel Zoo-they have a top 20 each week. Also Budget Travel online has deals; even special discount codes for packages.

Thanks Don, I found it after hunting a bit. I only get the US and Canada maps. But if I go to the top and click the preceding category at the top (farecompare, I think) then all the maps pop up. Very useful. Thanks.

airfarewatchdog.com is great - especially to us travel and major canadian and european destinations. also note that they have an airfarewatchdog.uk website for more. I also use travelzoo and have found some great bargains on that site. If you are looking for group travel, consider friendlyplanet.com and smartours.com - they often combine their groups but some of the tours are separate from each other. customer service is far better with FP than ST.
