When our kids were young (5 to 10) we took them apple picking every year. Now that they are grown, they get together with their friends and go with their children. On occasion we even join them. It's a fun way to spend time with the family. We always took along a picnic basket and ate lunch in the apple groves.
Our kids also take the grandchildren pumpkin picking and in the late spring they go strawberry picking.
These are all great activities for the family - well worth it at any price!!!!!

My husband and I went apple picking last weekend and it was great. It was just nice to hang out with him and wander around and the apples were a great bonus. Plus, he's really tall so we got the best ones The pick-your-own farm we go to is never super crowded and I'm up there a couple times a season for apples and strawberries at least.

Thanks for the kind responses everyone, we were just reading about the pros and cons and wanted to know what people who have actually experienced it think.
Pumpkin picking sounds exciting, especially now, in the fall. And the picnic is definitely a must! Thanks again for the suggestions!
