Is ORBITZ reliable for hotels? Should I PANIC or REJOICE?

I have been searching in vain for a room in the vicinity of Yosemite National Park, and everything is very booked for the summer.

But I found a room through Orbitz...in an other-wise-sold-out hotel. I even called the hotel first and they are sold out. But Orbitz still sold me a room.

Should I panic or rejoice? I have never used Orbitz before.

The hotel doesn't yet have a record of my booking but they said it generally takes a couple days after booking before they can see it on their computer.

What is your experience with Orbitz for booking hotels?

(By the way...I already have reservations in Yosemite National Park, but I needed to add a night on somewhere near the park for family.)

Used them last year and used them a bunch.

In fact booked the Shiloh Inn in Oakhurst CA

near Yosemite.com had a great stay $59/nt

Found a cheaper rate on travelocity they

sent me a check for the diff $10 or so

that was cool... so they are fine for me.

qwovadis: Cool...that's reassuring. Thanks for sharing. I was able to get a very helpful supervisor at my hotel to confirm on the phone that they can see my Orbitz reservation in their computer. Yay! Also the hotel gave me their own confirmation number, which is different from the one that Orbitz gave me. The supervisor says that this room may have become available because somebody cancelled. (There weren't any rooms at all available directly on the hotel's web-site when I checked, but then I found 1 on Orbitz.)

The price I paid is less than anything else I could find at this point. The trip is coming up this month and its high season.

This hotel has already treated me very well on the phone, even though I'm booking through Orbitz. I really appreciate that and I will definitely mention it favorably in my report when I return from this trip!

I can tell you 1 thing for sure...for all of us who need to book a room this late in the game, during high season...there aren't any rooms for anywhere near the $59 that you paid! I'm glad I already booked most of what we needed months ago, but this was 1 more night that I needed for family.

Many companies such as expedia.com, orbitz, hotel-desk.net and tripadvisor.com all have agreements with the hotels to hold a certain number of rooms. So the hotel will say that they are full when actually a number of the rooms will be unbooked but held by these bigger companies.

Orbitz are completely trustworthy and reliable!

Best of luck!
