India food Tours

Hi,

I will be visiting India for the 2nd time in December or January, but it will be for vacation instead of a work trip. I have around 12-15 days and I'm most interested in Indian food, cooking and of course visiting different cities. What will be the best option for me ?
Going solo and discover everything or my own or joining a group tour ? I have searched on internet and made a short list of places, group tours run by a few companies.I am most interested in visiting Delhi, Jaipur and Agra of course for Taj Mahal. For solo tourists, there are a bunch of food walks, cooking classes etc. arranged in different cities, but I am not sure about how to fit them in to my itinerary.
As of now, What will be good options and will it be possible to cover some other worth visiting places in 12 days ?
Is it OK if I share the name or url of the tour operators that I short listed here ? If someone has any good recommendations, please share.

Welcome fo Fodors. You will find the India experts over on the Asia board - you need to repost this there.

I have traveled in India solo, but it is challenging, and India is not as safe as it should be for a single woman. You might be happier on a tour. Travel in India is also slow, so don't try to go to too many places.

Agree, try Asia forum.

BUT - IMHO, the best food is in Kerala and maybe Goa! The spiciest and most killer will be in Andhra Pradesh.

Enjoy your trip. And yes, unfortunately India has been seen in a different light more recently due to media reports of violent attacks on women. If I were in your shoes, I'd only do a solo tour under the most specific of circumstances (high end locations/hotels, etc.) - but I'm not sure if that's the kind of trip you want. Otherwise, I'd find a food tour/group, personally.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for the replies and advice. I think I will make it a mix of group and solo travel. I have done a bot more research and found a few tour packages of interest which cover most of places that I want to visit. If someone has any idea about how good are they or have any relevant information, I'll be really grateful.
I want to visit Jaipur and Agra for sure. I have spent some time in Delhi, but not as a traveler. I will have about 10 days not including flight times. Following are some of the group tour packages that I have shortlisted.

It seems interesting because of all the amazing Indian food and their food tours in Delhi, Jaipur have excellent reviews on Tipadvisor.

Shorter tour which will leave enough time for traveling on my own and big trusted company. Cheapest too.

Seems good and covers Pushkar which will probably be nice in December.

Covers Udaipur and Jodhpur too. Is it a good idea to see so many places in this time period ?

Did you look at Intrepid travel? This journey looks wonderful - http://www.intrepidtravel.com/india/...re-india-71036 - all the way from Delhi to Goa and going via Rajasthan and Mumbai. You get lots of cooking classes and there is an emphasis on food and drink with visits to some interesting restaurants. I think I want to do this one. As others have said, India is generally safe to travel but you do need to be careful as a solo woman. Just make sure you don’t go alone to any areas that are unsafe and stick with a group in most places. Have a great trip!
