If You Could Be Anywhere, Where Would You Be For This New Year Eve?

If you could bring in “The New Year”, 2012 anywhere in the world where would it be and why.

As a part of my desire to see the global and learn about other cultures, I think experiencing how others celebrate “The New Year” would be very cool.

I welcome your suggestions for places to be and see for the birth of 2012 except for Times Square in New York or Las Vegas, Nevada which I have already done.

I've only spent one NYE away from home some years ago and went to Paris. I remember at the time, I thought it would be like partying in Times Square but I think we did something wrong. It wasn't even close but then again, maybe we just weren't in the right place.

I did however, liked being away. It is so cool to see how other cultures celebrate the holidays. So, if I were to pick a place this year, I would probably like to be in Sydney, Australia.

qwovadis,

Passed thru Rio in Sept (Need 2 Post It) and was thinking about going back for Carnival. However, watching fireworks on the beach with a few million people seems like fun!

abram,

You have any friends somewhere tropical that we can all hang at their house and party Count me in but I hate cleaning up.

sassy27,

Dissappointing to hear that about Paris and NYE. Spent Halloween in Sydney a few years ago and that was fun.

Femi,

Just got back from a safari (SA) but would definitely go again although to another part of Africa.

thursdaysd,

Which part or all over ... Went to Edinburgh, many years ago!

ashleynuels,

Did Times Square one year and it was miserable. Almost got trampled and ended up watching the ball drop in a bar away from there

Would recommend buying a NYE Package like at Hard Rock about $300 per person then camping out there all day

I'm not big on traveling for New Year's. Or even going out in my own home city (rookie holiday for people drinking and carrying on). I guess if I had to pick a destination out of a hat, sure, what the heck... take me to PARIS! just because.

I'd love to get to Iceland one year for the New Year; I love Iceland any time, but it sounds like the NYE celebrations are special.

Suze,

I am sending you a hat... to wear in Paris

Amy,

Just saw Iceland listed as a Top 10 spot for NYE and I have always wanted to go there. Heard it gets dark around 4pm so the celebrations starts early!

Either on safari in Tanzania or somewhere in northern Norway watching the northern lights - natures fireworks.

Actually pretty much anywhere which doesn't allow fireworks would suit me. I hate NYE here and the days running up to it with all the fireworks and noise and vandalism.

hetismij2,

Norway is a Great Idea.. Is the end of December a good time to see The Northern Lights there? What is the best city to where I can watch the natural fireworks show?

Any place that features a beach, palm trees, and zero chance of snow.

iowagirl,

Guess it's that time of the year for people up North to head South like the snowbirds.

Miami welcomes you

DMB: we're heading to Maui on Feb. 1, so we have that to look forward to. We'll have 10 glorious days, but I've considered asking my boss if I can telecommute from there until about mid-April.

An apartment that overlooks the Eiffel Tower. If I fall asleep before midnight, I'll still have the view.
