Has anyone ever traveled to a Heifer Project locale? Either the world headquarters in Arkansas or the international destinations?

I haven't yet, but I"ve been toying with the idea of going to their main farm in central Massachusetts, which is about an hour from where I live. Too far away to volunteer on a regular basis, but it could be an occasional thing. I love the Heifer program and frequently use it for my holiday giftgiving as well as for special events throughout the year!
Heifer International is headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. It has several working farms (Arkansas, Massachusetts, and California) where you can visit their Global Villages and see their work in the Third World. My daughter saw their work in Africa when she was in the Peace Corps, and it is truly an outstanding organization. I haven't yet been to the Arkansas farm but our church takes a group tour there every year and it's supposed to be excellent. I'll be going this spring to check it out as I want to take a college reunion group there next September.
I, too, think Heifer International is a fantastic way to help people around the world. It's such a great gift for the 'person who has everything', because he or she doesn't have a goat or a water buffalo yet! I love the concept that the actual receiver of the animal is to share its produce with others in the village. What a brilliant way to support a culture and enrich it.

I spent a year volunteering at heifer's educational center in Arkansas and it was an awesome experience...it is an official Americorps site so I got a scholarship for volunteering there. I learned so much! They accept volunteers of all ages, types, skills, interests etc. They pay a small stipend and provide community style living. If you're interested in learning about sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, development, or poverty, then it would definitely be worth a visit. They also do study tours overseas which I have heard are really great.
