Hawaii or Rio for solo single male travel
Hi, I just found this forum I would like to get some tips and suggestions...
I am 30 single guy and want to travel for a month... I would like some suggestions on travel to Rio or Hawaii next March, what would be best, I know both places have big differences.. But based on your experience what would you recommend.
I like sports, would like to surf, Hawaii would be best for it, scuba as well.. But also I like to see and meet nice girls as every guy does, perhaps Rio is best for that.
I've been checking renting a flat and in Hawaii is more expensive than Rio, I was wondering how cheap are both places, meals, drinks, nightlife.
I will be in Honolulu for a week before my holidays start, but was wondering if to stay there or fly somewhere else.. I would like to see the place and then decide, but it would be difficult to find a reasonable price for a place to stay. Flights are covered.
Also have to add, I'm not from the states, don't know if that would make any difference for both places.
Thanks

Can you split your month into two two-week stays? Because one month as a solo traveler in the same spot may be a bit much.
Hawaii is wonderful and you could stay on more than one island. Each is different. Since you're going to Honolulu anyway, I might just stay in Hawaii and enjoy the islands. We have visited all of them except Lanai.
Sorry, I know nothing about Rio.

I would love to have a month in Hawaii! You could spend one week on each of the 4 major islands. You can definitely find reasonable places to stay, but would be better if you planned that in advance online (like renting VRBO apartments).
Meeting women is more about you than the location you choose. Could happen either place.
Can't help with Rio.

Drug-Resistant "Super Bacteria" Discovered in waters of Rio de Janeiro, according to NBC news today.
Rio claimed they'd clean it all up before the Olympics, because it's where some events will take place.
But now they're saying maybe they can clean up 70% of it, at best. It's from hospital waste that is pumped into the sea.
Nice.
So, on that note, I would not go to Rio.

To get more feedback from a wider audience of experienced travelers, I would post on both the South America and the US forums (see change forum in blue on the top of the page).
Not too many people read this "Travel Tips" branch.
