I thought it might be a good idea (and because I'm procrastinating like crazy) to gather the Fodors' solo trip reports into one place, so I'll start with mine:
Peru (Amazon rainforest) and Panama City, 2007: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=6&tid=35029544
Poland and Lithuania, plus London, 2006: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34841274

Malta, 2004 (in a "100 Best" format![]()
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34569518
Vietnam, 2002:

Iceland, 2001 (also in 100 Best format): http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=1278237

What a wonderful idea Amy! This will be one thread that I'll sit my nieces down to read the next time they're here. To follow your lead (and example on identifying the reports):
Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Montreal, 2007: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=29&tid=35061783
Very good idea, I only have one to contribute and it's incomplete.
Good on you!! I love your enthusiasm about traveling solo.. I love it to
Sorry, I never write trip reports myself, so have nothing to contribute along those lines but want to thank you (Amy) for the idea and getting this thread started.
For the rest of you lovers of adventures alone... let's get together & breathe some life into 'Solo Traveler' forum for the New Year!!
My trip reports (all solo) are on my web site: www.wilhelmswords.com - although I've been meaning to do one for fodors for the last trip....
Nova Scotia, 2007
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=29&tid=35049063
Re-reading it I am reminded of somethings I want to do for my next trip, so hope others enjoy it, too. Cheers.
Now I actually finished it, here's the link to my Oct/Nov 2007 trip to Budapest, Austria and Venice: fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=35096856
Here is one, from Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai (I was alone (single female) in China but not in Korea):

Other trips I've done solo - to Japan, Europe and the eastern parts of Australia I've written about in my blog - in reverse oreder. Excuse the typos; they are usually written when tired, against the clock in internet cafes on unfamilair keyboards!

Thank you for starting this list, and thank you to everyone for contributing.

I'm a bum and never did a trip report for my UK and Ireland trip.
Since someone just topped this, I though I'd mention that I'll be blogging my next trip - solo to Georgia, Armenia, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Istanbul. I won't be leaving until Sept. 10th, but I'm also blogging about the preparations. If anyone's interested it's at mytimetotravel.wordpress.com .
Absolutely anything I can do to encouragae/inspire one 'n all (at any age) to travel solo - color me THERE!

As a grandmother of 6 who's spent a lifetime traveling off-the-beaten path solo (even founded/ran my own adventure travel company to Belize & Costa Rica for 20+ years) check out my 6 week amble 'cross South Africa and Mozambique - as a near sexagenarian!:

Travelin' solo opens you up to the locals/culture (which is why I travel of course!) And after all - if you wait for a hometown pal to coordinate travel dreams/time/$$$/druthers - you'll surely miss out on a good many wondrous corners of the world, no?
My next far-flung adventure? Come September, I'll be riding a camel in the Sahara in Morocco!

Hi Amy. I realize your trip report on South Africa is quite old but as I lived there for three years I wanted to just correct your use of the word Bantu as you would insult any South Africa using that word. Bantu is the word the white ruling class used for any black south African of any of the 10 or so ethnicities. There is no bantu language or tribe. Zulus are the largest, followed by Xhosa, Sotho, pedi, Venda, etc.
I loved the country but left because of fears for personal safety and a slow and unreasonable civil legal system.
Kim
Kimwhits, I really appreciate your information. The term "Bantu" was definitely used by white and black South African guides alike; perhaps it's due to the recognition that most non-South Africans have of the term in reference to languages such as Swahili and the early so-called "Bantu migration"?
My apologies to any whom I've unwittingly offended; I wonder if it's become a "reclaimed" word in some areas?
It is indeed a beautiful country and must have been hard to leave, but I can understand the personal safety concerns.
