Hello.... I always had the dream of spending all of my daughters 6th grade year on road. Travelling across the US, and Europe actually seeing and touching all those places that are normally just pictures in a book. Life happened and finances are making that trip just a dream. In June she'll be finishing up 6th grade and I'm not ready to completely let go of that dream. Can anyone out there refer me to a good starting place for a four week program for the summer for the two of us. Do you think I should rent an apartment for the four weeks somewhere, and where? I want to show my 12 year old the fun and excitment of learning new things, trying new places etc.... I'm thining of it as our baby step.

Sorry, but I think you're being way to vague. What is your budget? What are your daughter's interests? Does she like to travel?
Before my daughter started 8th grade we went to a Dude Ranch in Arkansas for a week. Great bonding time.
Now, she's 29 and married 6years. We take extended weekend trips a couple of times a year to different cities to check out attractions & museums.

I'm looking for more thna a dude ranch... maybe the dude ranch is a few nights of the trip. Budget is between 2500-4000K. Obviosuly the cost is contingent on what kind of stuff is planned.

My son is exactly that age. It's a great time to travel with them. They're old enough to be stoic when necessary but haven't hit that eye rolling bored stage (I have a 15 yo too).

We just spent a week in London and one in Barcelona which were both great hits. My daughter spent a week in Paris as a 13th birthday present from an Aunt. My son is due for the same gift and is leaning towards Rome as his destination of choice. Another big favourite is Costa Rica. How about Quebec City ?
Is she learning a language at school? I try to spend a week at Spanish school to acclimatize and then travel slowly. We also try to avoid too many transitions - a week in a location is plenty for kids (and their parents).

Has you travelled before? That will make a difference. If you give more details, it would be easier to make suggestions.

This web link will give you some information about language courses for children, which can be booked through a British company called Cactus Languages. You could create a relatively affordable trip by taking a 2 week language course (both of you) and staying with a family. Then take another 2 weeks to travel in the country where you've been studying.
