Expedia flight plus hotel deals, ok?

Hi,
I've never done this before, have always booked hotel separately, but am seeing some pretty good looking deals, even after cross referencing hotel info on Trip Advisor.
Can anyone tell me of their experience, good or bad - my fear I guess is that we'd get given the worst rooms in the hotel.
Thanks for any help,
Laura

I always rely on Expedia. I find them the best for price. Also I prefer to pay for my accommodation before going on my trip. Most of the hotels can be paid at the time of booking, rather than when you arrive.

Once I have found the hotel I like, I find the price online, and then I ring rather than booking from the website. At times I have found the quote over the phone to be cheaper than the price shown on expedia website.

I have been happy with the hotel rooms. I always read the reviews from guests who have stayed at the hotel also.

Thanks mandalay. Have you specifically booked the flight plus hotel deal, or just hotel? I've booked hotels before with them and lots of other sites too, but just feeling less certain for some reason, about going for the flight/hotel combo.

No I only book hotel rooms from expedia.

For flights, I have used zuji.

How funny--I have never booked hotels on Expedia, but have booked air tickets often. So maybe between us we prove that putting hotel and air together should be OK??

I've never found anything on Expedia that beat what I can find on my own doing air and hotels separately (but I stay at very "budget" hotel properties, often the kind not even included in Expedia).

Expedia is like any other travel agent. It's not a consolidator like Priceline or even a discounter like Hotels.com. So buying an air/hotel package is no more likely to get you a bad room than any booking, and depending on the destination, you can save considerably by booking such packages. For example, I booked a package to the Bahamas last month and got my air and hotel about $200 cheaper than I could have booked them separately. But you're right yo double check. A package does not always save you money.

Thanks, everyone! We're seeing deals for the trip we're looking at, that would save us a ton of money. That's after looking at what it would be to do it separately, and also cross referencing reviews. So I think we'll go for it, and will report back!
