Expedia booking told false seat assignments

I booked by phone with an agent from Expedia, said his name was Don. He told me we would have 2 isle seats gave me the seat numbers and when it came through we were in the middle rows, 3 rows from the rear. Can't get anywhere calling, they said I have to wait until 24-48 hours and then try with airline. Has anyone ever had this bait and switch used on them? I am going to call and see how much it is to cancel the 2 tickets and hotel rooms. Any advise would be appreciated.

That's the thing about travel, it's full of small inconviences. Do you really want to cancel your whole vacation because of this?
Are you flying first class?

As some wise soul on Fodor's once said, "Face it, economy is just a Greyhound bus with wings." Don made a mistake. Personally, I would let it go and start my vacation being happy to be going.

Do you hav an Amadeus booking reference for your flight? It's a 6-digit reference combining letters and numbers. It's sometimes referred to as a PNR or record locator on your confirmation. If so, you can try going onto the airline's website, entering that number and trying to change your seats online. Even if that's not possible, it is likely that you will be able to change your seats once you get to the airport - just plan on getting to the airport earlier than usual.

By the way, the word is "aisle", not "isle".

This is probably not even Expedia's fault. They don't control seat assignments, the airlines do. Any number of reasons could lead to the airlines changing your seat assignment, starting with an equipment change. And a number of airlines don't even allow seat assignment these days. Next time you can try booking directly with the airline, but that still doesn't guarantee that you'll get your initial selection. Nothing does.

I've never found a plane ticket cheaper on Expedia. I always book directly with my airlines, either online or by phone.
