We would like to go somewhere warm and sunny for about 7-10 days over Christmas.
We live in Northern Calif, children are grown, and we are seeking luxury accommodations (but need not be the most expensive).
No Hawaii: we have a wedding there in 2014.
Cruises: to Aust/NZ and South America: figuring air travel we cant really do it in 7-10 days.
I'm down to Mexico, Caribbean, Central America a cruise or a great resort from which we could book a day trip or two.
Anybody been on a great cruise (must be calm waters), visited a fabulous resort?

How about San Diego?
Nothing like having a Ramos Fizz on the beach, in front of the Del Coronado, with the temperature being 75 degrees.
You're free to do your own thing, and not jammed on a cruise ship. From the Bay Area, there will be tons of cruises to Mexico's west coast, but that's your choice.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico is lovely at Christmas-time.

I loved San Francisco.
What about cruising out of Galveston or New Orleans? You go to eastern or western Caribbean from those ports.

Dubai is great around Christmas time, beaches, shopping malls, famous attractions. It has a little bit of everything.
We live in Chicago and the past few Christmases we have gone away to warmer weather but to places that we always wanted to visit.
Last year was Cyprus;Canary Islands two years ago;Morocco three years ago; Egypt and Jordan when we first started going away. We fly a regular US carrier to the UK where we pick up our adult children and then usually take Easy Jet or BA to those countries.
The weather is great with few Americans;prices are good and there is so much history, culture with great food, wine and shopping! You can celebrate Christmas but you are not going to be lamblasted with the "last minute sale stuff" on the TV or stores. It is wonderful! This year we are going to try and go to Madeira!
