Car Travel with Hoodini child who escapes from 5 pt car seat.

I have a double jointed 'Hoodini' toddler in my backseat who can easily escape from every car seat we have tried (britax, Graco, you name it). She climbs out, then climbs up to the front seat before I can pull over. Yes, I sinch down the straps, and yes, she is buckled in to code. She is extremely flexible and incredibly strong due to her disabilities, and can simply wiggle out. I have tried putting a heavy coat on her which does seem to help, but I was wondering if there some sort of car travel vest or other method that would stop this from happening.

I have no advice to offer other than maybe you should contact the national car seat safety group. And, refrain from any and all road trips until you have this figured out! Good luck!

When my kids were little (a LONG time ago) there were harnesses to keep kids from falling out of strollers etc. They had 2 straps with stiff clips to attach on either side of the stroller or high chair or carriage, and a zipper down the middle (you could try the zipper in the back, and safety-pin the tab in place). Maybe this would work to attach your toddler TO the car seat.
I wonder if they still make them.

This is an old thread, but I'm bored.

Anyone besides me think a good smack would solve this?

I'm not advocating beating, but associating getting out of the car seat with pain will save her a whole lot of pain than if this continues and she goes flying through the windshield during an accident.

It's like slapping your kids hand away from a hot stove. Safety really shouldn't be compromised.

And, just to be accurate, it's "<b>Houdini,"</b> in case anyone wishes to do further research. He was born in Budapest and died in 1926 at age 52.
