Apps for Solo Travellers?

Hey Everyone! What are some of the issues you face while travelling that you wish you had an app for?

None. I have the same issues and non-issues as a solo traveler as I would if I were not solo.

If there's an app for getting one's suitcase into a bathroom while at an airport or train station or whatever, I'd actually be willing to buy a device that would support apps!

Otherwise, ditto thursdaysd.

I wish there were better public transit or interactive bike maps- have had very mixed luck there. And what KJA said- can't leave luggage unattended and if travelling solo you don't have someone to take turns watching it. That's a general solo problem, alas, same problem at restaurants and not something an app would be able to do. Well....maybe nanny cam or porter robot? Lol

@marvelousmouse - what have you tried for public transit apps? I have found hopstop works very well in the places it covers, and google maps can work. Then the cities with good public transport usually have their own sites.

A nanny cam for the luggage would be a good idea if it could also arrest a would-be thief - one reason I check a bag when I fly is so I don't have to deal with it in the terminal. Doesn't help with bus and train stations, of course.

For Europe, Öffi Stations works great for public transit, and so does the Deutsche Bahn DB app. Google maps shows bike paths.

Will have to check out hopstop. I don't think I've tried that one! Usually it's the local transit apps or bike itinerary apps in general that give me problems. Either they are very buggy and my phone shuts them down or they aren't intuitively easy to use. (But often, to be fair, my location is not in place that has good transit.) In the case of the bike maps, they either are even more useless than google in terms of safe routes or they don't interface with real time (I like to know as soon as I'm off track, and usually the driving apps only do that). I use Siri and Google maps if I'm driving or on foot, but not so useful for *pleasant* biking. I can read maps, but they don't tell you about current closures or estimated travelling times.

It's not really applicable in this case, but I sure wish Amtrak mobile website was easier to use. It's maddening. It's like they want you to NOT use the trains.

I check my baggage too, for exactly that reason. But I travel pretty light and the fee just feels like an unneccesary expense- not to mention that I don't like worrying about lost luggage.

There's an app called spotted by locals that my husband uses when he goes abroad. He says it's very useful, and it's free.
